Today’s Promise
Exodus 23:20
See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
Did you know that God places angels before you to protect and guide you?
God promised to send an angel before the people of God to guard them along their way and to lead them in the direction they should go.
I think we as modern Christians undervalue the supernatural work of God in our lives. Angels are supernatural creatures that carry out the will of God in heaven and on earth. They are both messengers and mediators.
God used angels throughout scripture to protect His people, to clear the path for them (Malachi. 3:1) and to send His message to them. Lot, Gideon, Mary and Joseph all had angels appear to them.
God still uses angels today. I have never seen an angel (that I know of), but there have been many times I know God supernaturally protected my life, and He probably used angels. How many accidents have been avoided because an angel intervened to keep you safe? Just because you don’t recognize them, doesn’t mean they are not there working in the background.
Today God is sending angels to go before you. There are three things these angels will do for you.
- Angels will guard you. All around you, spiritual warfare is going on. Every day, invisible spiritual battles are taking place all around you. We live on a spiritual battlefield. God sends angels before you as spiritual protectors and guardians.
- Angels will instruct you. Angels often brought a special message from God. God may use an angel to confirm His word to you. You may not even know it is an angel.
- Angels will clear the path before you. God sent two angels to rescue Lot and his family from the judgment of God on the city of Sodom and Gamora. God sent an angel to lead Peter of jail. Angels came to Jesus and ministered to Him after his temptation in the wilderness.
Look at that promise one more time,
See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. – Exodus 23:20
Confess this with me,
Today I am protected by angels that go before me.
I rest in faith that God’s angels are guarding me.
I stand strong knowing angels are clearing the way for me.
Father, thank you for your angelic defense team that watches over me.

These are encouraging words. Can you give us some new testament examples that this is true?
Thanks for the questions. An angel appeared to Joseph when he found that Mary was pregnant with Jesus. One also appeared to Him giving him instructions to flee to Egypt. Angels ministered to Jesus after the time of temptation in the wilderness. (Matt 4:11) An angel directed the women at the tomb after the resurrection. Peter is released from Prison by an angel who opens the doors for him (Acts 5:18) Cornelius sees and angel and goes to see Peter (Acts 10) Phillip is directed by an angel to Gaza. (Acts 8) Hebrews 13 instructs us to be hospitable because some have entertained angels and have not known it.
Those are just a few of the examples.
