Today’s Promise

I Am Not a Slave to Sin

Romans 6:6-7

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.

You are no longer a slave to sin.

Jesus’ death on the cross not only paid the penalty for your sin but broke the power of sin over you. You are free from the enslavement of sin because Christ has set you free.

Understanding this promise is one of the most liberating and empowering truths of the New Testament.

This promise says that your old self, the one in rebellion against God has died. Your old self was bent toward sin; it was selfish and wanted complete control of your life. Your old self would choose sin over righteousness every day, had you chained to your own desires and put you in bondage to every temptation Satan brought your way.

When Christ died on the cross, that old self was crucified with him. Because your old self has died, you are now set free from its power.

Satan has no power over you. His kingdom is defeated. When Satan brings temptation your way, you don’t have to fall to it. You have been set free! The power of sin over you has been broken through the power of the cross.

You will still be tempted, but now you have power over temptation because of Christ’s work within you. Instead of being a slave Christ has set you free from the power of sin.

Let’s review that promise again.

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. – Romans 6:6-7 (ESV)

Confess this with me.

In Jesus Christ, I am dead to sin.
Sin no longer has power over me.
I am set free from the penalty and power of sin.
My old self is dead, and my new self is alive and desires to please God.
Jesus has set me free from sin.

In Jesus name,
Amen

Remember your old self is dead and you are alive in Christ. You are no longer a slave to sin. So today, live free.
