Today’s Promise

Great is Your Faithfulness

Lamentations 3:23

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

Today’s promise was the basis of one of the greatest hymns of the faith.

Every morning God gives us a new start. Each day represents a new beginning. We can start anew in our walk with God and in receiving His love and grace.

This promise comes during a difficult time in the life of Jeremiah and the people of God. After a long period of lament, Jeremiah remembers the faithfulness of God.

The word “lovingkindness” used in this promise means God’s commitment love toward us.

I wish I could say my life was one straight trajectory to spiritual maturity.

I wish I could say my walk with God is once constant “Hallelujah!” But like everyone else, I have days when I fail, when I fall, and when I sin.

This verse is a reminder that you can never deplete God’s love and mercy toward you. Every day God’s love for you is renewed and replenished.

No matter who you are or what you have done, you will never deplete the love God has for you. You will not push God so far that He will break his promise to you. His steadfast love and mercy will always be with you.

As I look back at my life, I see a God whose patience and love for me has been without end. Just like Jeremiah, I have to declare, “Great is Thy Faithfulness!”

Many of us know this promise from the hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”

It was written by a Methodist minister named Thomas Chrisholm almost 100 years ago.

In a letter written late in his life, he wrote, “I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God and that He has given me many wonderful displays of His providing care, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.”

All of us could join Thomas in confessing how good and faithful God has been to us.

Great is Thy Faithfulness, Great is Thy Faithfulness.
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.
Great is thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me.

If you are discouraged today, there is one thought that can overcome despair, “God is faithful.”

Let’s review that promise one more time.

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:23

Confess this with me.

I can never deplete the love of God.
His love for me is renewed every morning.
God is faithful, even when I am not.
Thank you, God, for your great faithfulness to me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen

Every morning is a new beginning of God’s faithfulness to you.

God has been faithful to me in such an amazing way. My mom passed away September 27th. The week prior to her passing, God continued to give me an unction to pray that He would fill every void in my life. I didn’t understand why I kept praying this prayer daily but I was obedient to what I felt in my heart and I continued to ask God to fill the void. The next week as things began to not look so well for my mom, I struggled to process the timing of it all (It happened within 6 days). I watched my mom pass from life to death up to her very last breath. But God! At her funeral, I met a man who deeply loved my mom. Their relationship was one of Gomer and Hosea. This man, whom I’ve never met, I was told could potentially be my father. I’m 27 years old and I’ve never met him. Along with him possibly being my father, he has 3 daughters and a son who may be my siblings as well. But the even greater part is that even if he’s not my father biologically, he has expressed to me that he wants to be. God, in an instant began to answer the prayer he placed in my heart of filling the void. Although I lost my mom, God has given me back a dad and 4 siblings. Knowing my dad and having older siblings I could look up to has always been a deep desire for me. God is faithful. He used this situation that seemed to look bad, to let me know that he never forgot about me. He knew what my hearts desire was and fulfilled that desire. If my mom didn’t pass, I may have never met these wonderful people. Even in death, God works all things together for his good towards those that love him. To him be all the glory.

This is such a great and personal reminder of who God is and how faithful He is. He sees when I get inundated with so many things coming at me at once and He then brings this reminder of who He is and where He is, omnipresent. It just makes me want to draw closer to Him and know Him even more, and then you just want to sing, Great Is L Thy Faithfulness Lord Unto Me!
