Today’s Promise
God Gives Grace to the Humble
James 4:7
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
God has a tender spot for the humble.
Those who are willing to submit their lives to Him find grace to face every situation.
Grace is God’s love in action. When you humble yourself before God, His grace flows over you and into every area of your life.
Humility begins with confessing that you need God.
You admit you aren’t smart enough or strong enough to meet the challenges of day-to-day living. You humble yourself by submitting your life to His will and direction.
The proud person says they don’t need God. They think they can live a meaningful life without God’s help. A proud person sees themselves as the center of the universe. It’s a sade thought, but God opposes the proud person. God literally works against the person who refuses to humble himself.
Unfortunately, many Christians live a proud life.
Your prayer life is a key indicator of your level of pride. Can you go days without stopping to pray? Do you forget to seek God’s directions in the decisions of life? If so, you may be living a prideful Christian life.
God calls us to humble ourselves.
When we do, He exalts us. When we do His job by exalting ourselves, then God does our job by humbling us. (Let me just say, God is very good at humbling us.) If you are like me, I have experienced the humbling hand of God in my life many times.
If you want God’s grace to be flowing through your life, then humble yourself before Him. Humility follows those who become completely dependent on Christ. It is bowing your knee and confess that you don’t have all the answers, and you need His help.
Look at that promise again.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6
Make this confession.
- I live in humble dependence on God.
- As I humble myself before God, He pours out His grace on me.
- God opposes me when I live in pride and independence.
- I confess my need for Christ and humble myself before Him today.

In 2020 we have a ministry goal of tripling the number of listeners to The Daily Promise. We want to reach into more countries and encourage more people with the promises of God’s Word. I need God’s direction and blessing to make that goal. Please pray for me and this ministry.

I let pride get in my ways many times over and over. I’ve been praying for his direction. I want to live a humble life, with my God as my leader.

Thanks for the catch. Sometimes I get in a hurry and miss things. It’s been corrected. Blessing!
I go days without praying and run from pillar to post trying to solve my problems instead of humbling myself to God. I ask God to forgive me and help me depend only on Him in all things. Give me a humble spirit and direct me, Lord.
