Today’s Promise

Give Thanks to the Lord

Psalm 107:1

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Don’t Forget to be Thankful

Hopefully, you are anticipating a time of thanksgiving with friends or family. In 2020, that may be in person or via Zoom. However, you celebrate, take some time to be truly thankful.

Your first thought might be, “Hey, what do I have to be thankful for?” No matter what your situation, you can be thankful. If you live in the United States or other developed countries, you are better off on your worst day than most of the world.

It’s Easy to Forget

It is so easy to focus on what we don’t have and forget all the wonderful blessings we do have. If you can turn on your faucet and fill a glass of water, you are better off than 1/3 of the world’s population.

– If you own a car (no matter how old), you live in the top 9% compared to the rest of the world.

– If you make more than $2.50 a day, around $75 a month, 1/2 the people in the world wish they were as blessed as you.

– If you have survived the Covid-19 pandemic, you are better off than the 1.3 million people who have died from it.

You Are Blessed

I just want to remind you that you are blessed. Sure, things may not be perfect, but they could be much worse. You can be thankful today. Just that you are listening or reading this post means you have a computer or phone, internet access, and the electricity to keep them charged.

If there is one message I hope you receive from The Daily Promise is that God is good. His goodness flows over each of us daily. He is our provision, our protection, and our Father.

“For He is good” shows up seven times in the Old Testament. Each time it is proceeded by “Give thanks to the Lord.” Thanksgiving must always be our response to God’s goodness.

“For His lovingkindness is everlasting” means that God has a commitment love for you that will never change. Even when you are disobedient or wander away from His presence, He still watches over you.

Because God is good, and because His commitment love for you is forever, you can be thankful.

Look at that promise again.

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. – Psalm 107:1

Make these confessions.

  • Thank you, Father, for your goodness and care for me.
  • Thank you for blessing me in ways I easily forget.
  • Thank you that your love is never-ending.
  • Thank you for the salvation I have in Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ name.
Amen

Take a moment to itemize all the things you can be thankful for today. I recently saw a post that read,
What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?

Thank you for reading The Daily Promise. I hope each day is a blessing to you and a reminder of God’s goodness and promise. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

My Family and friends. My husband passed away in February. I cherish and am thankful for all of them.
God has been so good to me, even though it feels still sometimes I feel He is not there. But God is always with me.

Thank you, God, for Your many blessings on us, the ones we’ve seen, as well as the ones we haven’t seen.
Thank you, God for the times You have said “no.” They have helped us depend on You so much more.
Thank you, God, for unanswered prayer. It reminds us that You know what’s best for us, even when our opinion differs.
Thank You for the things you have withheld. You have protected us from what we may never realize.
Thank You, God, for the doors You have closed. They have prevented us from going where You would rather not have us go.
Thank you, Lord, for the physical pain You’ve allowed in our lives.  It has helped us more closely relate to Your sufferings on our behalf.
Thank you, Lord, for the alone times in our lives. Those times have forced us to lean in closer to You.
Thank you, God, for the uncertainties we’ve experienced. They have deepened our trust in You.
Thank You, Lord,  for the times You came through for us when we didn’t even know we needed a rescue.
Thank You, Lord, for the losses we have experienced. They have been a reminder that You are our greatest gain.
Thank You, God, for the tears we have shed. They have kept our hearts soft and moldable.
Thank You, God, for the times we haven’t been able to control our circumstances. They have reminded us that You are sovereign and on the throne.
Thank You, God, for Your ability to take what we consider ‘tragedy’ and turn it into a treasure.
Thank You, God, for those You have called home to be with You. Their absence from this earth reminds us to keep our eyes fixed on heaven.
Thank You, God, that we have an inheritance in the heavenly places, something that this world can never steal from us and we could never selfishly squander.
Thank You, God, for the greatest gift You could ever give us: forgiveness through Your perfect Son’s death on the cross on our behalf.
Thank you, God, for the righteousness You credited toward us, through the death and resurrection of Jesus. It’s a righteousness we could never attain to on our own.
And thank You not only for our eternal salvation, but for the salvation You afford us every day of our lives as You save us from ourselves, our foolishness, our own limited insights, and our frailties in light of Your power and strength.
Thank You, God, for all that You have allowed and not allowed in our lives this past year. For we commit our lives anew to You this day and ask that You would continue to remind us, throughout this next year, that You are God, You are on the throne, and You are eternally good.
Thank You, finally, that we can pray in the name of Jesus, who made our access to You and a personal relationship with You possible.  Amen.
