Today’s Promise

Goodness and Mercy Follow Me

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

When you’re discouraged, and your faith is shrinking, there’s one thing you can do that will encourage you and strengthen your faith.

Goodness and Mercy

In this last verse of this most well-known psalms, David declares that God’s goodness and mercy have always been with him.

As David looked back over his life, he saw that even though he had been unfaithful, God had always been faithful. God had poured His goodness and unfailing love on him throughout His life. David had times of blatant sin, and periods of deep unfaithfulness, yet because of God’s mercy, the Lord had never failed to be with him.

Romans 8:28

This declaration is an Old Testament version of Romans 8:28. God is working all things together for our good.

God’s goodness is His abundant, loving care for you. It is God’s goodness that brings His blessing and favor into your life. His mercy inclines His heart to relieve your burden and pain.

Because God had been so faithful to David in the past, he was confident that God would continue to be there for him. “All the days of my life” is a confession that God has been good through all the days of the past, and will be good in all the days that are yet to come.

You may not think it, or feel like it’s true, but God is pouring out his goodness and commitment love on you right now. Even when you are unfaithful, God’s commitment love is working for your good.

Some Day

In the future, you will look back at this time to see how God’s blessing, protection, and provision were flowing over you, and God’s goodness has followed you throughout your life.

If you are facing a difficult time, take a few minutes to review how God has worked in your life in the past. Thank Him for all the times He has provided for your needs and protected you from harm.

Just as David looked back on his life and saw the goodness of God, you will remember God’s blessing to you over the years. As you do, you will find your faith strengthen, and your hope renewed.

You will find your fear and worry subside, and you will join David in saying God’s goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life.

Look at that promise again.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. – Psalm 23:6

Make these confessions.

  • God’s goodness is flowing over me today.
  • God’s mercy is following me wherever I go.
  • Just as God has blessed and protected me in the past, He will do so in the future.
  • I will not worry or fear because His goodness and mercy are following me today.

In Jesus name,
Amen

Since Friday, March 20, 2020, God has been sending a red cardinal to my living room window –which I since discovered is symbolic of the blood of Jesus in Christianity. It is a daily reminder to be thankful for the sacrifice of the Messiah and what it means for me personally as a believer. The experience is flowing peace in and through me! All glory, honor and praise belong to our God!
