Today’s Promise

I Am Content in Christ

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
Philippians 4:11

An Elusive Word

The Apostle Paul mastered a word that seems so elusive to our world today.

So many people live with an attitude of “just a little bit more.” If they can just get that new car, new house, new career, or even a new spouse, they would be happy. They think they will never be happy unless all their needs and wants are met. To make it worse, the lines between their needs and wants have become extremely blurred.

Contentment

The word Paul had mastered was “contentment.”

We live in a discontented world.

Many of our financial problems are caused by our lack of contentment. We buy things we can’t afford, hoping they will bring meaning to our life.

We work harder to buy more things, hoping that the newest shiny object will bring satisfaction.

True Contentment

True contentment is not based on your situation or circumstance. True contentment comes from the Lord. Contentment understands you don’t find meaning in what you have. True contentment is found in understanding who you are in Christ.

Contentment is the opposite of worry, anxiety, and stress. Contentment connects to the peace Christ gives.

It’s All in Who You Know

The Apostle Paul knew that purpose and meaning in life are not found in what you own but who you know. The Apostle Paul had very few material possessions. He spent his share of time in a Roman prison, shipwrecked on an island, beaten, and stoned. Yet, he found true contentment in knowing Christ and bringing glory to God in everything he did.

You can be content today because you know God will provide all you need. You can be content today because you know true fulfillment isn’t found in what you own or have but in your relationship with Christ.

The basis of contentment is living in complete surrender to Christ. He knows what you need even before you ask. When you place your life completely in His hands, you will experience a deeper level of satisfaction and contentment.

Look at that promise again.

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. – Philippians 4:11

Make these confessions.

  • In Jesus Christ, I am content.
  • I will not seek meaning through what I own or have.
  • I find purpose and satisfaction in Christ.
  • I am content in every situation of life.

In Jesus Name
Amen

You have a choice, you can chase after every “new thing” hoping to find satisfaction, or you find true contentment through your relationship with Christ.

What stuck out for me in this Scripture is that Paul says ‘I have learned to be content” so this shows me it was a process for him it was not automatic. So learning to be content is a process of maturing in realizing stuff and circumstances should not define your contentment. Your contentment should be defined by your connection with God in your life. I should have contentment because I’m fully confident in God taking care of me and providing for me in all circumstances.
