Today’s Promise

I Am New in Christ

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

New in Christ

Amazing things happened when you came to Christ. Yes, your sins were forgiven, and yes your place in Heaven was secured, but that is just the beginning. Paul says that those who are “in Christ” (one of his favorite ways of describing the Christian) are new creatures.

You are not the same person you were before you came to Christ. It doesn’t matter what your past was like, what you did, thought or how you acted. That person is no longer around. That person is dead and gone.

God Made You New

God has made you new. In Christ, the power of your old life with its desire to please itself and rebel against God has been replaced by the Spirit of Christ. Now you live the resurrected life with Christ.

Your Past is Gone

So many Christians live with baggage from their past, but this promise says all that is gone, and it no longer has power or influence over you. As a new person in Christ, you have Christ living in you and are no longer bound to your past life.

The word “new” here means something completely different and significantly better than what existed before. In Christ, you are new and significantly better than you were before you came to Christ. You are a new creature.

Today we celebrate that new life we have in Christ.

Look to that promise again:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Confess this with me,

  • In Jesus Christ, I am a new person.
  • My past doesn’t matter, my sin is forgiven, and Jesus dwells in me.
  • My old life died when I gave my life to Jesus.
  • I live as a new person free from my past, my failures, and my shame.
  • In Jesus Christ, I am a new creature, empowered to the new life Christ has for me.

In Jesus’ Name
Amen

Thank You Lord for creating in me new heart to forgive those who have hurt me. By doing this I am now more understanding of what others might be going through and not so quick to judge.
