Today’s Promise

December 27, 2021

I Will be Fruitful Even in my Old Age

The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, he will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green.
Psalm 92:12-14

As a follower of Christ, God promises you can live a thriving and fruitful life even in your old age.

Four Ways to be Fruitful

In this promise, the psalmist says four things about the righteous man or those who have the righteousness in Christ. Remember, usually, when the Bible uses the word “man,” it refers to everyone.

First, you will flourish like a palm tree. Palm trees have an incredible ability to thrive in environments where other trees would die. You will find palm trees where there is little rainfall and extreme temperatures. God promises that you can thrive even when life is difficult.

Second, you will grow like the cedar of Lebanon. In the Bible, the cedar of Lebanon is a symbol of strength. In that part of the world, the cedar tree grows extremely large. Some cedar trees grow to 143 feet tall. The trunks can be 8 feet in diameter. They grow straight up, and their branches grow straight out. As you walk with the Lord, you will be strong when others fail. You have the power and strength of the Holy Spirit within you.

Third, you are planted in the courts of God. God has you planted in His presence. You have an unfair advantage over those around you because you live in the presence of the living God. Nothing can separate you from God’s presence.

Fourth, you will continue to be fruitful and thrive in your old age. God doesn’t have a retirement program. You have the promise that you will be fruitful and thrive in your old age because God is your strength. As we get older, we begin to think about retiring.

People save their entire life for their retirement years. However, God doesn’t have a retirement program. He does have a relocation program. So unless you are ready to relocate to heaven, God still wants to use you.

God doesn’t have a retirement program.

The date palm begins growing fruit in about its eighth year and continues to produce fruit for over 100 years. Like the palm tree, as long are you are breathing, you can produce fruit for the kingdom of God.

God promises you can be productive and flourish all the days of your life. The key is planting yourself in His presence.

Look at that promise again.

The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, he will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green. – Psalm 92:12-14

Makes these confessions.

  • I will flourish like a palm tree.
  • God makes me strong as the cedar of Lebanon.
  • I am planted in the presence of the Lord.
  • Even when I am old, I will thrive and be fruitful for the kingdom

In Jesus Name,
Amen

As a follower of Christ, you can thrive in the most difficult situations. God will refresh and strengthen you as long as you live. Even in your old age, you will be strong and fruitful in the kingdom of God. What an incredible promise from God’s word.
