Today’s Promise

Jesus Walked in My Shoes

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus is the Word of God

The Gospel of John opens with a description of Jesus as the Word of God. He was God’s Word in flesh and bones. He was in the beginning with God and was God.

In verse 14, the Apostle John, one of the twelve disciples, gives us two essential promises about Jesus.

Jesus Walked in Our Shoes

The first promise was that Jesus dwelt among us. The great creator God stepped out of heaven into His creation. He took on the form of man and lived with us.

Jesus experienced all the pressures, temptations, and struggles you and I face. He knew what it was like to be tired, frustrated, and even angry. He literally walked in our shoes.

Because He walked among us, He understands all the struggles and problems you and I face.

Jesus Was God

The second promise is about the uniqueness of Jesus. The world would say Jesus was a good teacher, a great leader, and even an enlightened person, but not God. The Bible, and Jesus Himself, declare that He is the only Son of God. When Jesus walked on this earth, He did not cease to be God. He was all of God and all of man wrapped up in one body. Jesus was the great God-man. Those who saw Him saw the glory of God in Him.

Because Jesus walked on this earth, you can be confident that He understands your weaknesses and struggles. You don’t have to “try” and reach up to God; He has come down to you.

Because Jesus is God, you can place your faith in Him. He was not just another man with another idea. He was all of God, poured out into the flesh of man.

All other religions demand people to sacrifice and work to be good enough for God.  Christianity is about God stepping down to our level and providing a way of salvation.

Look at the promise again.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:14

Make these confessions.

  • Jesus is the Word of God, and I can place my trust in Him.
  • Jesus was all of God and all of man in one body.
  • I don’t have to reach up to God because He reached down to me.
  • Because Jesus walked on this earth, He knows the struggles I have.

In Jesus name,
Amen

A good friend texted me yesterday and mentioned that everywhere he goes, it seems people have lost hope. Even Christians are suffering from “lost hope” these days. My prayer is that The Daily Promise will provide encouragement and hope through the promises of God’s Word. As you hear God’s promises and place your trust in them, you will find new hope and strength.

Take a moment and share The Daily Promise with a friend. Please help me get the message of hope out to the world. Please email or text five people and let them know about The Daily Promise. Together, we can bring hope to a hopeless world.

Our hope and strength come from the Lord. He has said in his word that he will never leave us or forsake us, and that’s a promise we can count on
