Today’s Promise

My God is a Good Father

Matthew 7:11

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

When you become convinced that God is a good father and wants to bless His children, your prayer life will be transformed.

Prayer is Speaking to Your Heavenly Father

Jesus taught that when you pray, you speak to your Heavenly Father. He said like an earthly father; your Heavenly Father gives good gifts to His children.

How you see God dramatically affects how you pray.  So many Christians have a poor understanding of their Heavenly Father. They have forgotten that their Father in heaven wants to give good gifts to His children.

As a Father

As the father of three, I have learned a lot about giving to my children.

First, I love giving gifts to my kids. It brings joy to my heart to see them happy. I want to give them everything they need to grow, mature, and be happy. It’s a sorry father who refuses to provide for His children.

Second, I don’t always give them what they want. Sometimes what they ask for isn’t what is best for them. Some of God’s greatest gifts are when He doesn’t give us what we are asking.

Third, I always want the best for my children. I have always looked for ways to motive and encourage them to be all they could be. Never forget God wants the best for you. Even when you can’t see it, He is working for you good.

Fourth, I expect my children to ask. When my children were young, everything they had came from me. I was their only supply. If they wanted something, I expected them to ask me. God promises to meet all your needs.

Fifth, my children never worried about my provision. I did whatever it took to provide food and clothing for my children. They never worried about where their next meal would come from. They expected their father to provide for their needs. They had “faith” that when they asked, I would give them whatever they needed.

Finally, I was always ready to help. Even as grown children, I help them in any way I can. One of my daughters lives, 360 miles away. If she called today and needed help, I would be in the care before the conversation ended.

If I want to bless my children this much, how much more does your Heavenly Father want to bless you? An early father has his limits. Your Heavenly Father has unlimited resources. Your earthly father makes mistakes and sometimes messes things up. Your Heavenly Father is perfect in all His ways.

I understand that you may not have grown up under a good father. Don’t allow his poor example to influence how you see your Heavenly Father. Your Heavenly Father is a good father who loves you more than you can imagine.

Look at that promise again.

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! – Matthew 7:11

Make these confessions.

  • My Heavenly Father is a good father.
  • He desires to give me good gifts.
  • He invites me to call on Him for my needs, desire, and concerns.
  • My Heavenly Father is always looking for ways to bless me.

In Jesus name,
Amen
