Today’s Promise

You Will Bear Much Fruit

But His delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law He meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.
Psalm 1:2-3

God promises that those who make His word the focus of their lives will produce spiritual fruit.

Bear Much Fruit

Psalm 1 describes a person who “delights in” or makes the Word of God their priority. When you build your life on the word of God, you become like a tree that produces good fruit.

You can judge the condition of a tree by the fruit it bears. A healthy tree produces fruit. A healthy tree produces quality fruit and a large quantity of fruit. Spiritual fruit is the natural result of the person with an active walk with God.

There are two types of spiritual fruit God is growing in your life.

The Fruit of the Spirit.

As you delight in God’s Word, He grows the fruit of the Spirit in your life. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control all grow in your life as you follow Christ. These spiritual fruits grow as a natural result of your fellowship with Christ. You can’t work on being more patient or having more joy. However, when you build your life on the Word of God, these fruits naturally become evident.

The second fruit is the fruit of changed lives.

A fruitful tree produces fruit for multiplication. Every apple contains the power to grow multiple apple trees. Each apple tree grows enough apples to produce hundreds of trees. As you delight in the Lord, God uses you to draw others closer to Him, multiply the kingdom of God, and bring others to Christ. Jesus promised to make you His witness and use you to expand the kingdom of God.

The Psalmist said you would be like the tree that produces fruit in its season. This means the tree produces fruit when it should. It doesn’t have to work and strain to produce the fruit; it’s part of the natural process. Likewise, as you delight in the word of God, you will naturally produce spiritual fruit on God’s timetable.

Look at that promise again.

But His delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law He meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. – Psalm 1:2-3

Make these confessions.

  • I am a fruitful Christian.
  • God is growing the fruit of the Spirit in me.
  • God is using me to expand the Kingdom of God.
  • My spiritual fruit is changing the lives of those around me.
  • I produce spiritual fruit according to God’s timetable.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Spiritual fruit is an indication of your spiritual health. God promises that you will be fruitful as you delight in His word.

Love this episode, but have one question. The point about producing fruit on God’s timetable – I am not sure I understand, don’t we produce fruit all the time? Or, are you saying it in not under our control, but the Holy Spirits?

Hey Jeff, thanks for the questions. What I meant was that you can’t produce the fruit by trying to produce the fruit. You produce the fruit of the spirit by allowing God to grow them in you. I don’t think all the fruit grow at the same pace in our life. God may be working on our patience and wants to grow that in our life, but we want to see peace grow. It’s in God’s time and plan. Our responsibility is to simply walk in the Spirit and allow Him to do His work in us. – Billy
