When I Am Weak, the Lord is Strong
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:10
It seems contrary to our thinking, but God celebrates our weakness. It is through our weakness, His strength is revealed in our lives.
When I Am Weak
The principles of God’s kingdom often run contrary to our thinking. Who would ever say, “I am content with weakness.” We brag about our strengths. Who would say, “In my weakness, I am strong.” We celebrate how our strengths overcame our weaknesses.
Paul understood that the laws of the kingdom of God are different than the laws of this world. He knew that God’s power is often strongest in weak people.
God Uses Weak People
God loves using weak and flawed people. Hudson Taylor was born almost 200 years ago and was one of God’s greatest missionaries. He was only 21 years old when he followed God’s call to travel to China and preach the gospel. Even though Husdon Taylor suffered from several health issues, he spent 51 years in China. There he established churches and schools and encouraged over 800 other missionaries to come to China.
Here is what he said about weakness.
“All God’s giants were weak mean who did great things for God because they reckoned God to be with them.” – Hudson Taylor
We expect great, influential people to do big things. No one is surprised when a good-looking, articulate, well-educated person achieves success. However, when God uses weak people to do great things, there is no question about who gets the glory. Moses, David, Peter, and Paul were all weak men who God used greatly.
No matter your situation, failures, or weaknesses, God can still use you to do great things for the Kingdom of God. Your weakness will not keep God from using you.
You can use your weakness as an excuse or allow God to do great things through you.
When you understand that God can use your weakness for His glory, you can praise Him for your frailty.
Look at that promise again.
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. – 2 Corinthians 12:10
Make these confessions.
- God uses weak people to do great things.
- When I am weak, He is strong in me.
- God uses my weakness for His glory.
- Despite my weakness, God can still use me.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
Let me remind you one more time what Hudson Taylor said about weakness.
“All God’s giants were weak mean who did great things for God because they reckoned God to be with them.”

Today’s message really spoke to me.
Just curious, was Hudson Taylor your relative?
Keep up the good work, Billy. Love it!
That would be cool, but unfortunately, no. No relationship, except in the Lord. – Billy
We can all be weak in different ways. Please God, work in us and through us for Your glory
