Today’s Promise

Not by Might or Power, But by the Spirit

Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
Zechariah 4:6

God’s Power
Today’s promise is about trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit in you. It’s not about your strength but God’s strength.

When Zerubbabel became the governor of Judea, God gave him a seemingly impossible assignment. He was to rebuild the temple the Babylonians had destroyed. When King Solomon built the temple, he had almost unlimited resources. His father, King David, had spent years setting aside building materials and resources for the temple. King Solomon was one of the wealthiest kings who ever lived and had incredible wealth and resources at his disposal.

Not by My Power
Zerubbabel was leading a group of people who were recently set free from captivity. They had no wealth, no resources, and no way of rebuilding the temple. God sent the prophet Zechariah with a word for Zerubbabel. The temple couldn’t be completed through their power or resources. Only God working through them could bring about success. It was the Spirit of God who would enable and empower Zerubbabel and his people to accomplish the work of the Lord.

When God gives you an assignment, He provides everything you need to accomplish it. Is there something God has told you to do, but it seems like a mountain before you?

Move the Mountain
The prophet equated rebuilding the temple to a mountain before Zerubbabel. That mountain would fall before him and his people. At times, we all face mountains. Jesus said, with faith, you can speak to the mountain, and it will move to the sea.

What is the mountain you are facing today? Your power or strength won’t cut it. You won’t conquer it with your best thinking or the world’s wisdom. It is not by your might nor your power but by the Holy Spirit’s power, strength, and leadership. Through His strength, you can fulfill all God has called you to be and do.

Look at that verse again.

Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. – Zechariah 4:6

Make these confessions.

  • It’s not about my strength or power but the Holy Spirit within me.
  • I can accomplish everything God calls me to do by His Spirit.
  • I can face any mountain because God’s Spirit is within me.
  • Today, I won’t stand on my strength but will trust in the Holy Spirit’s power and might.

In Jesus’ Name.
Amen

When it comes to doing God’s work, you can try your best or trust in the power of the Lord. In one way, you receive the glory; in the other, it all goes to God.

God has used me to work hard and keep calm and have peacefulness in stressful work situations. To be an inspiration of his peace. It was only through God that I had the strength to be strong 🙏

Jesus said the same thing, “I am the vine, you are the branches, He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, for without me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
