The Lord Gives Wisdom
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity.
Proverbs 2:6-7
Today we are talking about wisdom. God has stored up a reserve of wisdom for those who call on Him.
We Need Wisdom
We can all use a little wisdom, right? If you are like me, I look back at some of my past decisions and wonder what I was thinking. If there was a way to make better choices, we could live better lives.
God promises wisdom to those who seek Him. Wisdom is the ability to make good choices that bring about success. Wisdom is applying the truth of God’s word to the decisions of your daily life. Wisdom is knowing the right thing to do. When you practice wisdom, you live a life of quality and success.
Wisdom Comes From the Lord
True wisdom only comes from the Lord. Wisdom is the result of living in fellowship with God. As you seek wisdom from the Lord, two things happen in your life.
First, God gives wisdom to those who seek Him. God has stored up an abundant supply of wisdom for you. You will never deplete the wisdom God is ready to bestow on you. Imagine a library of guidance and good decisions prepared for the asking. As you seek God’s presence, you experience God’s wisdom.
Second, God’s wisdom becomes a shield about you. Wisdom keeps you from foolishness. Foolish decisions bring about disastrous living. However, wisdom keeps you on the right path. It keeps you in line with God’s will and desire for your life.
To gain wisdom, you must seek the Lord. God’s wisdom is connected to God’s presence. If you want to find wisdom, it will be from the hand of God. Begin your wisdom journey by asking God for wisdom in every decision of life.
Gaining wisdom is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey. There is a price for seeking wisdom, but there is a higher price for living outside of God’s direction and protection.
You choose to live a life of wisdom or foolishness. God’s desire for you is wisdom.
Look at that promise again.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity. – Proverbs 2:6-7
Make these confessions.
- Wisdom only comes from the hand of God.
- When I seek the Lord, I find wisdom.
- God has wisdom stored up for me.
- Wisdom is a shield about me, protecting me from foolish choices.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
The book of James tells us to ask God for wisdom. Why not make asking for wisdom part of your daily prayer life? God gives wisdom to all who ask.

As it says in this devotional, “asking God for wisdom in every decision of life” is what God is trying to teach me. Similar to what is written in Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your path.” I forget to ask in all my ways, but when I do He helps and guides and gives me the wisdom to do it right. Praise be to God,
