Today’s Promise

You Can Be Strong and Courageous
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
Today’s promise has been one of my favorite verses for many years. I can’t think of a more appropriate promise for the world today.
Be Strong
Joshua had just taken Moses’s place as the leader of the Children of God. They had entered the promised land and were facing multiple enemies that were stronger and mightier than them. I’m sure Joshua must have thought, “What have I gotten myself into?”
Three times in verses six through nine, God tells Joshua to be strong and take courage. God says the same thing to you and me today.
Bad News
If you are like me, it’s hard to stand strong when you face so much bad news. You can’t listen to the radio, watch TV, or go online without being bombarded with messages of fear and doom.
From moment-by-moment updates on the latest social uprisings, warnings of global warming, and potential new pathogens, we face so many problems we don’t know how to solve.
For most of us, recent events have turned our world upside down. Many of us have had to learn to work from home, and we aren’t sure when the next major pandemic or crisis will come.
It is easy to let the dark shadows of fear rise up within us with all that is going on.
You Can be Strong
In all this, God says, be strong and take courage. You may think that’s easier said than done, but God gives you a word of instruction and a promise.
You can be strong and take courage because God’s word shows you how to face problems and live wisely. In verse 8, God told Joshua that he would have success if he meditated and obeyed His Word.
Maybe instead of binging on the latest Netflix series or watching the constant flow of news, you might spend a little extra time in God’s word this week. Your fear will subside, and your faith will increase.
Second, you can be strong and courageous because God is with you. Even when you don’t know what to do next, God is right there with you. I have an older brother. When I was a little boy, I was never afraid when he was with me. I knew he would always come to my rescue. God promises to be with you no matter what you face or what you are going through. His presence is with you right now.
When you see all the fear and worry around you, remember God is with you.
Look at that promise again.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
Make these confessions.
- I am strong and courageous.
- I will not fear, for God is with me.
- I walk according to the Word of God.
- I have victory over every enemy because God fights for me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
You can be bold and take courage because God has given you His word and is with you. With God by your side, how can you be afraid?

I
It’s a whisper or feeling you get when you are trying to make a decision or sometimes it’s people who the Lord brings into your life. It’s always a feeling of peace and you just know this is what I should do 🙏
Often God gives me exactly the guidance and instruction I need from my daily devotions, including The Daily Promise. So today I will be strong and courageous, for God is with me.
