Today’s Promise

The Christmas Announcement
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:10-11
It may seem strange that God chose to announce the birth of Jesus to a group of unknown shepherds. The answer is found in today’s promise.
Jesus came as the Savior for all people. While the Jews were expecting a political leader to free them from the oppression of the Roman Empire, Jesus emerged as a Savior beyond any earthly empires or kingdoms. As the King of Kings, He offers salvation to everyone.
On that night in Bethlehem, the angels declared four important truths:
First, there is no need to be afraid. If a host of angels appeared to me, my initial reaction would be fear. However, we need never fear the Lord or the things of the Lord. As 1 John 4:18 says, “Perfect love casts out fear.”
Second, the birth of Christ brings good news. The message of the Gospel is one of hope and salvation. Because a baby was born in a manger, we can have eternal life with Christ in heaven.
Third, the promise of Christmas is for all people. It doesn’t matter if you are a humble shepherd or a wise king; there is always room at the foot of Jesus for worship.
Fourth, Jesus is Lord. He is not just a Savior; He is the Savior. He is the Lord and master of all creation. We eagerly anticipate the day when that babe in a manger returns as the risen King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Look at that promise again.
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. – Luke 2:10-11
Make this confession after me.
- Because of God’s love, I don’t have to be afraid.
- The birth of Jesus is good news.
- This good news is for all people.
- Like those in the manger, I worship the Lord Jesus.
In Jesus name,
Amen
The good news of the baby born in a manger is to all people. The Lord Jesus offers salvation to anyone who places their faith in Him. He is the Lord and master of all creation and worthy of our worship.
