Today’s Promise

The Spirit Tells Me I Am His

Romans 8:16

The Spirit Himself testifies with our Spirit that we are children of God..

Just as Jesus presents us to the Father as His children, the Holy Spirit speaks to our hearts that we are His.

Assurance of Salvation

At the heart of your walk with God is an assurance that you are His child. Until you are secure in your salvation, your Christian walk will be full of doubt, indecision, and fear. Over the years, I have spoken with many people who doubted their salvation. Was their salvation experience real? Did they pray the right prayer? Was their faith strong enough? Were they sincere enough? These and a thousand other questions haunt their thoughts.

Until this issue of assurance is settled, you can never grow and thrive in your walk with God.

How You See Yourself

How you see your relationship with God impacts the way you live. If we see yourself as a poor, broken sinner, powerless over your sin, you will live that way.

If you see yourself as a child of God, forgiven, an heir to the Kingdom of God, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, you will live that way.

When a Christian doubts their salvation, their walk with God becomes stagnate, and they never share what God is doing in their life.

If you have given your life to Christ, you have a powerful inward assurance that you are a Child of God. That assurance isn’t found in positive thinking or hopeful dreaming but in a deep testimony of the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit Speaks to Your Heart

As a Christian, the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart that you are part of God’s family. You are a child of the living, creator God.

Just as Jesus stands before the Father and claims you as His own, the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart that you are His. When someone “testifies,” they tell what they have seen. When the Holy Spirit testifies to your Spirit that you are a child of God, He is speaking what He has seen.

He Calls us His Child

In this chapter, the Apostle Paul had just finished talking about how we can cry out to God as “Daddy.” Now he shares that the Holy Spirit reminds us that God says to us, “Child.”

You are a child of God not just by association, but by a change of nature. God has adopted you as His child and given you a new nature in Him. You are not a slave but a child. You are a fellow heir with Jesus Christ.

If you struggle with doubting your salvation, ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart and confirm that you are a child of God.

Look at that promise again.

Amen
