Jesus Invites Me to Dine With Him
Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20
Dinner With Jesus
Imagine sitting down to dinner with Jesus? What would you talk about? What would you learn? What questions would He answer? In today’s promise, we learn how Jesus invites us to sit with Him.
In this promise, Jesus invites you to open the door to your heart and allow Him to sit down with you.
Most of us are familiar with this verse. We may have heard or used it in a Gospel presentation. However, this verse was written to Christians.
Jesus is Knocking
At one time, Jesus knocked on the door of your heart to offer salvation. You responded in faith, and Christ came into your heart, making you a new creature and giving you eternal life.
Then Jesus continues to knock on your heart. As you respond, you move into a deeper fellowship with Him.
This promise says that Jesus invites you to dine with Him. There is something special about sharing a meal with someone. When you really want to get to know someone, you invite them to dinner. Jesus used this picture to illustrate His desire to have intimate communion with you.
A Place of Fellowship
The kitchen table is the place of fellowship. You invite guests into your living room, but you welcome friends to the kitchen table.
The invitation begins with hearing the voice of the Lord. God is always speaking to your heart. He invites you to sit down and get to know Him. He wants to have fellowship with you.
This promise shows up in the middle of a letter written to the church of Laodicea. The church had lost its passion for Christ.
Like so many Christians, they had become lukewarm in their faith. They had allowed other things to get in the way of their fellowship with Him. They weren’t really cold to God, but they weren’t on fire for Him either. They were middle-of-the-road Christians living outside of an intimate fellowship with Christ.
With all that goes on in life, it’s easy to have faith in Christ but not fellowship with Christ. It’s easy to hold onto Christ but not walk with Him on a daily basis.
The Invitation
The invitation begins with hearing the voice of Christ. Jesus is always knocking and always calling you to a deeper level of fellowship. Too often, like the church in Laodicea, we have allowed the other things in our life to crowd out our first love for Him.
Today, listen for Christ knocking at the door of your heart. Open the door and invite Him into the daily activities of your life. Take a few moments to sit down and spend time with Him. You will experience a deeper level of fellowship and a return to your first love for Him.
Look at that promise again.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. – Revelation 3:20
Make these confessions.
- Jesus is calling me to an intimate walk with Him.
- The more I open my heart to the Lord, the deeper our relationship goes.
- I will not allow the world to steal my time of fellowship with Him.
- Today, I will listen for His call.
In Jesus name,
Amen

How have you heard Jesus knocking on your heart? (Share in the comments below)
We’re just about to have boysenberry ice cream with mixed fruit so please don’t interrupt. It’s my favorite and I want to make it His. How did you get my email address? I live in Melbourne, Australia, on the other side of the planet. I have had an incredible life and He has had a part in so much of it. I was given up as dead from drowning in a well at eighteen months. May God bless you and keep you.
Leonard
Hey Leonard, the only way we could have gotten your email address is for you to have signed up at some point in the past. Thanks – Billy
I have heard Jesus knocking on my heart through the Holy Spirit when I feel completely down and lonely and hopeless. Jesus is the Promise and assurance.Truly He wants to fellowship with me.
