I Will Not Fear
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Do Not Fear
God commands you and me not be afraid. How can you walk in fear when the God of the universe is by your side?
What are you afraid of? I’m not talking about the fear of bugs, snakes, or things that go bump in the night. I’m talking about the fear that keeps you awake at night and greets you when the morning comes. That debilitating fear. The fear that keeps you frozen in your tracks. The fear that keeps you from enjoying all God has for you. Psychologists tell us we are born with only two fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. Every other fear is a learned fear. Unfortunately, we seem to be pretty good learners.
So often, our fears hold us back. They limit our thinking and weaken our faith.
Five Reasons Not to Fear
In this promise, God commands us not to live in fear. Fear is confessing that God is not in control. It is confessing that God is not watching over you. This command/promise gives you five reasons why we shouldn’t live in fear.
First, You don’t have to be afraid because God is with you. How can you walk in fear, knowing that the God of the universe is with you?
Second, He is your God. The creator God is your God. You know Him, and He knows you. You are in a relationship with the living God.
Third, He is strengthening you. God’s power is flowing through you today. How can you ever be afraid failing when God is your strength.
Fourth, He is helping you. It seems like an unfair advantage, but as a child of God, God is helping you in every area of life.
Fifth, He is upholding you. Picture a father holding His little daughter’s hand. Any fear the little girl has is swept away as her father takes her hand. God’s righteous right hand is upholding you in the same way.
What are you afraid of today? When you are afraid, remember God is with you. He’s strengthening and helping you. He is holding your hand to keep you safe.
Let’s look at that promise one more time.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
Make these confessions.
- I will not fear because God is with me.
- I will not fear because the creator God is my God.
- I will not live in fear because God is strengthening me
- I will not live in fear because God is helping me.
- I will not live in fear because God holds my hand and lifts me up.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
You can’t live in fear and live in faith. To overcome your fear, trust in the God who has promised to strengthen, help, and hold you.

How has God helped you overcome your fear? (Share your thoughts in the comments below)
Not quite correct in my case, Billy…..I don’t fear because I don’t believe God is in control;…. I believe that He IS in control, and that’s precisely why I do fear.
I knew my earthly Father was in control when I was a boy, and that’s why I feared him….because whenever I didn’t measure up to his expectations, I feared he would hurt me (as he often did). Even after being a Christian for over forty years, I can’t seem to shake the belief that my heavenly Father is like my earthly one was, in that respect; that He is ready, willing and able to punish me whenever I fail to meet His expectations (which is fairly often). The pain and suffering I have experienced since I became a Christian seems to be directly related to my failing Him, as sure as the law of sowing and reaping (cause and effect).
I know He is Love, but it’s the “tough love” aspect that I fear.
James, I understand where you are coming from. It’s easy to superimpose our view of our earthly father onto our Heavenly Father. However, God is not lot your earthly father. If your earthly father was perfect in all aspects they would be similar. If your earthly father was perfect in his love for you, things might have been different. Your view of an “angry God” is not consistent with the Bible. God is not waiting to strike you when you fail. Romans 2:4 says that it’s God’s kindness that leads us to repentance. God doesn’t have “tough love,” He has perfect love.
May I suggest you look back over many of these promises and ask God to renew your mind when it comes to your view of Him. Ask Him to build a new new of grace in your life. – Billy
