Today’s Promise

God Blesses You When You Bless Others

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Luke 6:38

When You Bless Others

It may seem contrary to your thinking, but God promises that when you give to others, it will come back to you.

The Kingdom of God often works the opposite of the world and our thinking.

Jesus has just finished teaching His followers how they should live. His teaching was completely contrary to how they would typically act or think.

They were to love their enemies, do good to those who hated them, bless those who cursed them, pray for those who mistreated them and never retaliate. He ends this teaching with this promise. When you give, it will be given back to you.

A Generous Giver

Jesus commands you to be a generous giver. You are to be a conduit of His blessings. When God blesses you, you pass those blessings along to others.

When you give time, kindness, skill, and money, you activate the promise of Reciprocal Blessings. What you give, God gives back to you.

Although the goal is never to give so you can receive, you do have the promise that you cannot out-give God.

A Greater Blessing

When God gives back to you, it is full and overflowing. Jesus said your giving comes back to you pressed down, shaken together, and running over. Imagine a container of flour. It’s not only full but has been packed down, then shaken to make sure every square inch is full. Then the flour is piled up to the point that it flows over the sides.

That is how God blesses you when you give. When you give to your church, God blesses you. When you support ministries, God blesses you. When you give to a person in need, God notices. Jesus said that even a cup of water given in His name would not be overlooked. God blesses those who bless others.

God calls you to a life of generosity where the blessings you receive are passed on to others. In the process, you receive blessings that overflow back to you.

Look at that promise again.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Luke 6:38

Make these confessions.

  • As a Christ-follower, God calls me to be generous.
  • God calls me to be a conduit of His blessings.
  • When I give, blessings come back to me.
  • As God blesses me, I will bless others.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen
