Today’s Promise
Be Strong and Take Courage
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
God Promises Courage and Strength
As we face these challenging days of the Coronavirus, God promises to be with us so we can be strong and take courage.
This promise has been one of my favorite verses for many years, and I can’t think of a better promise for us today.
Joshua had just taken the place of Moses as the leader of the Children of God. They had entered the promised land and were facing multiple enemies that were stronger and mightier than them. I’m sure Joshua was thinking, “What have I gotten myself into?”
God tells Joshua to be strong and take courage, three times in verse six through nine. God is saying the same thing to you and me today.
It’s Hard to Stay Strong
If you are like me, it’s hard to stand strong when you are faced with so much bad news. You can’t listen to the radio, watch TV, or go online without being bombarded with messages of fear and moment-by-moment updates on the Coronavirus.
For most of us, our world has been turned upside down. We are working from home, our favorite restaurant is closed, and we can’t even meet someone at Starbucks.
With all of this going on, it is easy for the dark shadows of fear to rise up inside us.
In all this, God says, be strong and take courage. You may be thinking that’s easier said than done, but God gives us a word of instruction and a promise to do so.
We can be strong and take courage, as we walk in obedience to Him. With our churches moving online, it’s easy to let our faith slip.
In verse 8, God tells Joshua that if he will meditate on, and be obedient to His Word, Joshua would have success.
Maybe instead of binging on the latest Netflix series, or watching the constant flow of news related to the virus, you could spend a little extra time in God’s word this week? Your fear will subside, and your faith will increase.
Second, you can be strong and courageous because God is with you. Even when you are stuck at home with all the kids, God is right there with you. His presence is with you right now.
When you see all the fear and worry around you, remember, God is with you.
Look at that promise again.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
Make this confession.
- I am strong and courageous.
- I will not fear for God is with me.
- I walk according to the Word of God.
- No enemy can stand before me, for God is fighting for me.
In Jesus name,
Amen
As you face your greatest challenge or your strongest enemy, remember, God is with you.
Here are a couple of quick, practical suggestions.
- Limit your watching of the news. You really don’t need a moment-by-moment update on the virus spread. Watching the news 24/7 will only raise your level of fear.
- Keep in contact with family and friends. What a great time to call, Facetime, or skype those closest to you.
- Spend some extra time in prayer and Bible reading. This will build your faith and give you hope.
- Remember, God is with you today.
