Today’s Promise
The Lord is My Shepherd
Psalm 23:1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
We often think of Psalm 23 a psalm shared at funerals and memorials.
However, Psalm 23 is really all about living. This psalm is a description of what it’s like to have God as your shepherd.
This promise begins with a five-word promise; The Lord is my shepherd.
The Lord, the creator of the universe is your shepherd. He is the Lord God Almighty. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the beginning and the end. He holds all creation together by His word, and there is no one like Him.
Your shepherd is taking personal care of you.
Jesus called Himself the good shepherd. As the good shepherd, He is caring for you, looking after you and providing for your every need. As His sheep, you never have to worry, and you will lead a satisfying life.
There is a big difference between shepherds and ranchers. Ranchers don’t care about their herd; their goal is the slaughterhouse. The shepherd cares for each of his sheep. Ranchers drive cattle, but shepherds lead their sheep. Ranchers brand cattle, but shepherds know each of their sheep my name.
You have a good shepherd, and He is the Lord God Almighty.
When the Lord is your shepherd,
- You know you are cared for. He will notice and help when you are weak, sick or in need.
- You know He knows you by name.
- You know there will never be a need He won’t meet.
- You know He loved you enough to lay down His life for you.
- You know He will guide you in the way you should go.
Let’s look at that promise one more time
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. – Psalm 23:1
Confess this with me.
The Lord of all creation is my shepherd.
He is my protection, provision, and guide.
He is watching over every area of my life.
He knows my name, and I hear His voice.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
