Today’s Promise

I Am Content

Philippians 4:11

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

The Apostle Paul mastered a word that seems so elusive in our world today.

So many people live with an attitude of “just a little bit more.” They think if they can just have that new car, new house, new career, or even a new spouse, they would be happy. They feel they can never be happy unless all their needs are met. To make it worse, the line between their needs and wants is often blurred.

The word Paul had mastered was “contentment.”

We live in a discontented world.

Most of the financial problems we experience are caused by our lack of contentment. We buy things we can’t afford, hoping it will bring satisfaction in our life.

We work harder and buy more things, just to try and satisfy our lack of contentment.

True contentment is not based on your situation or circumstance.

True contentment isn’t found in what you own or your position in life. True Contentment comes for the Lord.

Commitment is understanding that you don’t find meaning in what you have or what you own. True commitment is found in understanding who you are in Christ.

Contentment is the opposite of worry.

Contentment is connected to the peace that Christ gives.

The Apostle Paul knew that his purpose and meaning in life was not in having every need or want satisfied. Paul spent his share of time in a Roman prison, shipwrecked on an island, beaten and stoned. Yet he found true contentment in simply bringing glory to God in everything he did.

You can be content today because you know God will provide all you need. You can be content because you know your happiness isn’t found in what you own or have, but in your relationship with Christ.

Are you content today? Are you finding your purpose in Christ over what you possess? God promises you contentment as you look to Him for all you need.

Look at that promise again.

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. – Philippians 4:11

Make this confession.

In Jesus Christ, I am content.
I will not seek meaning through what I own or have.
I find purpose and satisfaction in Christ.
I am content in every situation of life.

In Jesus Name
Amen
