Today’s Promise
Christmas Promises
The Wonderful Counselor
Isaiah 9:6
For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Every day until Christmas, we are looking at the promises of Christmas and seeing what we can learn from them today.
Earlier this week, we looked at this promise of Christ’s birth, but there is just so much in the promise, we just had to look at it again.
As Isaiah describes the coming Messiah, He calls Him the Wonderful Counselor. There are two important aspects of this title.
First, he describes His incredible power as the ruler of all ages.
When Jesus was born in a manger, He came as a humble servant. There will come a day when He returns with all power and authority. All the nations will bow before Him and see the wonder and majesty He possesses. He will be the supernatural king who will reign and rule for all eternity.
This mighty and powerful king will also be One who is full of wisdom and compassion. Jesus never sought counsel from anyone but the Father. He never gathered the disciples together and asked for their suggestions or opinions. Since Jesus was God, He needed no one to counsel or advise Him.
Second, Jesus was the great counselor.
This coming king would not only be great and mighty but would be filled with wisdom and compassion for all who followed Him. When Jesus promised the coming of the Holy Spirit, He promised “another” counselor. The Holy Spirit would continue the work of the Wonderful Counselor. Jesus offers wisdom and guidance for you and me today.
If you need direction today, call on the Wonderful Counselor.
If you need wisdom in a major decision, look to the Wonderful Counselor.
If your heart is broken, call out to the One who can bring you peace and comfort.
The Wonderful Counselor invites you to come and receive from Him all you need.
Look at the promise again.
For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6
Make this confession.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, He will reign with supernatural power and authority.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, He brings wisdom and direction to my life.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, all nations will bow before Him.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, He is ready to bring comfort and peace to my hurting heart.
In Jesus name,
Amen
