Faith in Christ Brings Peace With God
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:1
True Peace
True peace comes from an intimate relationship with God. Through Christ’s death on the cross, you have peace with your past, peace with yourself, and peace with God.
Peace. It’s a hard thing to come by these days. From political uncertainty to the rise of depression and anxiety, it seems our entire world is suffering from a lack of peace.
Peace in the world and peace in your heart begins with peace with God. When the angels announced Jesus’ birth to a group of ordinary shepherds, they declared, “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men.” The source of all peace is the Lord Jesus Himself.
No God, No Peace
It’s interesting that as we have removed God from our schools, universities, and country, suicide, depression, and anxiety have risen. According to the CDC, suicide has been up 33% since 1999.
When you lack peace with God, you lack peace within yourself.
Peace With God
Sin keeps us from experiencing peace and puts us at odds with God. There is no peace with God as long as there is sin. I have never talked with anyone who wouldn’t admit they were sinners. We all know we have done things wrong. That’s why Jesus came and died on the cross. He paid the penalty for your sin. Without Christ, you have to deal with your own sin. You may excuse or ignore it, but no matter what you do, your sin and shame are always there.
Justified
Your faith in Christ justified your sin. A preacher friend used to say, “Justified means just-as-if-I’d never sinned.” Through Christ, you now have peace with God. That peace flows into every area of your life. In John 14:27, Jesus promised His supernatural peace to those who followed Him. You have peace with your past because Jesus has forgiven your sin. Because God no longer holds your sin against you, you no longer live with the shame of your sin.
If you are struggling today, remember you have peace with God through faith in Christ and the promise of peace in every area of your life.
Look at that promise again.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. – Romans 5:1

Amen
