God Forgives and Forgets Your Sin
And their sins and their lawless deeds, I will remember no more.
Hebrews 10:17
Good and Bad Guilt
How many times does guilt keep you from experiencing all God has for you?
We all experience guilt; guilt can be a positive thing. The Holy Spirit can use guilt to bring about conviction and repentance of sin. More often, Satan uses guilt against you. Satan uses guilt to keep you pushed down, shamed, and condemned. He whispers, “How can you be a Christian and do that? God will never forgive you. You are never going to please God. You are a second-rate Christian. You are an embarrassment to God.”
Have you ever heard those words or felt that way? Have you ever felt the sting of guilt from your past sins? God promises to forgive and forget your sins. If you are like me, I can forgive myself, but forgetting my sin is a different story.
Forgotten Sins
When God forgives your sin, He forgets it.
One day a pastor heard God say to him, “Do you know that man’s past?” The pastor said, “Well, no, I don’t.” God replied, “Neither do I.”
God intentionally chooses to forget your forgiven sin. It doesn’t matter if your past was good or bad when God forgave your sin; God forgot it.
Forgiving Yourself
You may be like some people I know who God has forgiven them, but they have a hard time forgiving themselves.
Many Christians can’t seem to forgive themselves. They hold onto their guilt and ask forgiveness for the same sin over and over. They confess sins God has already forgotten.
You don’t have to live with guilt. God not only forgives your sin but forgets it. He doesn’t look at you and see your sin. He only sees the righteousness of Christ. Your sin has been forgiven and forgotten through your faith and the blood of Jesus Christ.
Let’s look at that promise once again.
And their sins and their lawless deeds, I will remember no more. – Hebrews 10:17
Make these confessions.
- When I sin, I confess my sin, and God forgives and forgets my sin.
- I will not allow guilt from my past to hold me back.
- I will not allow Satan to put shame, guilt, or condemnation on me.
- Jesus has forgiven and forgotten my sin.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Why would you live in guilt and shame when God has forgiven your sin? When God forgives your sin, He forgets it. Confess your sin, receive God’s forgiveness, and then forget it; God has.

How does knowing your sins, forgiven and forgotten, affect your walk with God? (Share your thoughts in the comments below.)
It affects me but it also overcomes my guilt Thank God🙏👍
I try to see how the Lord God kept me thru it all when guilt and past thoughts of sin creeps up!
I WILL NOT LIVE IN GUILTY BECAUSE GOD HAS FORGIVEN MY SINS. AMEN
Sometimes I worry that sins that I committed throughout my youth and younger years ( am 75 years old now) that I never confessed at the time and didn’t ask for forgiveness are actually considered forgiven and forgotten. There were some big ones that I have confessed but others that I only have a vague feeling about. Do you think that if I ask God to forgive them all in an inclusive type prayer that I can feel at peace?
Barbara, that’s a great question. When you gave your heart to Christ, He forgave your sin. All that you had committed and all that you ever will commit. Your sins of the past are under the blood of Christ. Confession is about restoring fellowship – about returning to the Lord. Peace comes from understanding that all your sins have been forgiven. His blood has made you whole. Christ has imparted His righteousness on you.
