Today’s Promise
God is Near the Brokenhearted
Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Life’s Knockout Punch
When life has thrown you a knockout punch, God is there to draw you near. When you feel crushed by the things you have experienced, God will save you from hopelessness.
Being brokenhearted is more than having your high school boyfriend break up with you. The brokenhearted are those who have suffered an event of such magnitude that it has left them debilitated. Their sorrow and pain are so intense they can’t move forward.
We’ve All Been Brokenhearted
Most of us, at some time in our life, have been brokenhearted. It may have been because of a lost relationship, a moral failure, or financial ruin. It may have been a lost loved one or some other painful event. Whatever the case, when you are brokenhearted, your spirit is crushed, and all your dreams are shattered.
It is during these times that God comes and draws you near. Like a loving parent who picks up their child and holds them close, God will draw you near to Him.
God is Compassionate
The God you serve is a compassionate God. The word compassion shows up 98 times in the Bible. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus is moved with compassion as He sees the hurting and sick. When Jesus was moved with compassion, He took action. Jesus healed the blind, restored useless legs, and fed the hungry. He even raised a boy from the dead in the middle of the funeral.
The compassion of Christ moved Him to relieve the pain of the people He encountered.
If you are brokenhearted today, Jesus is close. The Holy Spirit will minister peace and healing to your soul. Too often, we pull away from God when we experience difficulty and pain. Instead, run into the arms of the One who loves you more than you can imagine. Jesus never turned away anyone who came to Him hurting. He will never turn you away, as well.
Look at that promise again.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. – Psalm 34:18
Make these confessions.
- When I am brokenhearted, God draws me close.
- He pours His love and compassion over me.
- When I come to Jesus, He will never turn me away.
- Amid my pain and failure, God brings healing and restores my hope.
In Jesus name,
Amen
When you are brokenhearted, God draws close to you, bringing healing to your heart and hope for tomorrow.
If God has seen you through when you’ve been brokenhearted, let me hear an “Amen” in the comments. Share your story to encourage others.
Amen!
Amen
I have been broken since my wife left me five years ago for another man. I feel abandoned by God who says it is not good for a man to be alone. Yet everyday that I wake up alone makes life more and more hopeless and unbearable. Where is this compassion from God of which you speak? I wish I could experience it.
Jonathan, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I can feel the pain in your words. I wish I had the words to make things better. I know bad things happen to us sometimes. Often it is through the hands of those we love. I also know God will bring you through this. I am praying God’s comfort and peace to you today. – Billy
Hi Jonathan,
People will fail us, but God never does. While we may not always understand why hurtful things happen, we have a God that will love us and restore us and put us back together better than when we were before. He will give us hope and courage…we have to believe in the love He has for us…day by day and sometimes moment by moment…we just have to allow ourselves to be healed and not believe that the hurt we have experienced defines who we are. I pray for an abundance of hope and wholeness in your spirit. In Jesus name…amen.

Thanks so much. Needed to hear this today ❤️
No Amen I am having viscious panic attacks and anxiety. When I call out to Jesus I feel no comfort or peace. I do not feel any closeness to HIM.
Pat
Pat, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. Here are a few suggestions. Our anxiety grows as we focus on our anxiety. Spend some time focusing on how God has blessed you in the past. Try and move your focus from whatever is causing the anxiety. Usually it take time for God to work in your heart and life so you begin to see some change.
Pat – God put this verse on my heart for you – “And the LORD will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.- Isa. 58:11
You have definitely gone through the scorched places.
