Today’s Promise
God Makes a Road in the Wilderness
Isaiah 43:18
Behold, I will do something new. Now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.
The Infinitely Creative God
I love this promise because it begins by reminding me that God is always doing something new. The God you serve is the infinitely creative God. Every sunrise is a reminder that God is doing something new.
He is doing something new in your life, and in the world around you. He is building and expanding His kingdom throughout the world.
Too often, we focus on the past and miss the new thing God is doing right now. You have to keep your spiritual eyes open to see His new work.
The Wilderness
Sometimes God does His new work while we walk through a wilderness experience. Life is hard, and it can sometime take you through the desert. When you face dry and uncertain times, keep your eyes open for the new work God is doing.
Often, God does His best work on the backside of the wilderness.
When you are in the wilderness, you aren’t sure what tomorrow will bring. Will things get worse or better? Will I even survive? Fear and worry team up to sneak up behind you and bring about doubt, distress, and confusion. They whisper, “What will happen if?”
The Roadway
When you face the desert of your days, remember God makes a road in the wilderness. Don’t go off in any direction, hoping to find a way out. Look for the road God is providing. He will bring you through. Listen for His voice and stay close to Him.
When you are in the wilderness, life’s lush joys are replaced by the endless sand, sun, and barren loneliness. The joy of the Lord becomes a remote memory.
The River
In the wilderness, God promises life-giving water. When water comes to the desert, life springs forth. A small pool of water is surrounded by green grass, trees, and vegetation. It becomes an oasis in the middle of a barren wasteland.
God promises more than an oasis. He promises a river. In the middle of your desert journey, God is bringing a flowing river of life. Jesus promised that those who believed in Him would have rivers of living water gushing forth from their inner being.
Beside the wilderness roadway, God gives you a flowing river of His presence. He will be your guide, sustenance, and refreshment.
Look at that promise again.
Behold, I will do something new. Now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert. – Isaiah 43:18
Make these confessions.
- I will not dwell on the past but look forward to what God will do today.
- I am keeping my eyes open to the new thing God is doing.
- When I face uncertain times, God will show me the path to follow.
- When the world dries up around me, God will bring rivers of refreshment and provision.
In Jesus name,
Amen
When you face the wilderness of uncertainly, God will make a road in the wilderness.
When life becomes a dry desert, He will refresh you with His presence.

I am a 60 yr. old man who has served the Lord since I was 9. I have been playing the drums and leading worship in my church for many years and recently we brought our sister church together with our church and many changes are being made. I knew for many years I knew how to lead and where to go in worship and what was expected of me to lead the worship music, now I seem lost and confused by the new service layout, lack of consistent flow of the service and uncertainty of where to go in the worship. I am struggling to continue to be the worship leader, but I know currently there is no one else to do it and playing and singing are my passion and ministry. Please pray for clarity of mind, peace and assurance of my abilities to lead our church in worship. Sometimes I just feel like I could bust out and cry, but I haven’t yet and don’t feel a release of the pressure that is mounting. Thank you!

My mom has a mental illness that is making it harder and harder for me to be there in the capacity I have over the past 11 years. I have 2 siblings that are not helpful in this situation and they are trying to bully me (because there’s really no other way to explain it) into continuing to take care of her. I want to step away from her and the situation but here is my struggle…… what will the Lord think of me? Will He forgive me for not continuing?
