Today’s Promise

God’s Promises Are Precious

2 Peter 1:4

He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Bible Promises

The Bible contains over 3,000 promises. Every one of those promises is God’s commitment to you. Every command of God has a connecting promise because He always empowers you to accomplish His will. You could say the Bible is the written promise of God’s love and salvation.

As the Apostle Peter talks about God’s promises, it seems he just can’t add enough words to describe the wonderful promises of God. I can imagine Peter working through this statement as he wrote this letter.

Precious Promises

“God has given us promises.” That’s good but doesn’t really express it. How about “God has given us precious promises.” That’s better but not quite there. How about “God has given us great and precious promises.” It’s almost there; how about “God has given us very great and precious promises” I think even then he just had to stop. No words could truly express the wonder of God’s promises to His children.

Peter goes on to say that every one of God’s promises are given for a purpose. In this verse, Peter lists two purposes.

His Divine Nature

First, God’s promises are given for us to participate in His divine nature. God has done a miraculous work in your life. He has given you a new nature. As a child of God, you have His divine nature in you. Each promise gives you more insight into the incredible work He is doing in your life.

The Corrupt World

Second, God’s promises are given to escape the corruption of the world. Ever since Adam and Eve sinned, our world has been falling apart. Sin has marred the earth and corrupted every culture. The world you live in is completely opposed to God. The only way to live above the world and the temptations that surround you is to claim and hold onto the powerful promises God has made. His promises give you hope for tomorrow and strength for today.

Most Christians have no idea of the wonderful promises God has laid out in the scriptures. They don’t understand the incredible power and transformation Christ wants to do in their life. Because they don’t know the promises of God, they live in bondage to sin and the world around them.

As you learn to claim the promises of God, your faith will grow. Your walk with God will be strengthened and empowered. As you learn and claim each new promise, your walk with God will grow stronger and deeper each day. Sin’s power is broken, and you will walk in freedom as never before.

Look at that promise again.

He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. – 2 Peter 1:4

Make these confessions.

  • God has given me great and precious promises.
  • His promises remind me of His presence in my life.
  • His promise keeps me close to Him and away from the world.
  • As I claim His promises, my faith grows.

In Jesus name,
Amen

God has given you so many incredible promises in His Word. His promises give you power for living and build your faith in Christ.
