Today’s Promise

I am Happy to Obey God’s Word

Psalm 119:14

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

Obedience Doesn’t Make Sense

Like so many things in the Christian walk, receiving joy from obeying God doesn’t seem to make sense. The thought of obedience often brings images of restrictions, rules, and regulations. How could obeying God be a joy?

The Psalmist says we can rejoice over obeying God the way a person rejoices over finding an envelope of money, seeing their stocks go up, or discovering a hidden treasure.

Here are four short reasons why you can rejoice in obeying the Lord.

First, obedience produces a blessed life. When you walk in God’s will, you walk in God’s blessing. Jesus taught that those who seek after righteousness and have a pure heart would be blessed. As we have mentioned before, those who are blessed, live in the favor of God.

Second, obedience keeps you from harm. God gives you His instruction for your good. Following God’s word keeps you on the right path, so you miss the snares and problems others face. Imagine all the problems our world would miss if we just obeyed God’s word.

Third, obedience pleases the Father. As a child of God, you want to please your Father. As you obey God’s word, you confess to the world that your Father is good and knows best for your life. When you walk in obedience to His Word, you honor Him in all you do.

Fourth, when you walk in obedience, you show your love for Christ. Jesus said those who love Him would obey His commandments. Your obedience to Christ is an expression of your love for Him.

Let’s look at that promise once again.

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. – Psalm 119:14

Make these confessions.

  • It is my joy to be an obedient child of God.
  •  I am blessed as I obey the commandments of the Lord.
  •  When I walk in obedience, God protects me from harm.
  •  When I obey God’s word, I honor God and show my love for Him.

In Jesus name,
Amen

Hello, I sometimes have a problem (struggle) obeying God’s word when it comes to a particular area of my job. I am not sure if I am towing the line. I work remotely, but as a single mother, I sometimes run errands while I am working remotely. I am still able to use my phone to work as I do things remotely, but I am not sure if that is being deceptive and I want to be a good example for my daughters.

I think that since you are struggling with this shows that you are a conscientious worker. I worked remotely for many years and found that I was often being more efficient because there were all the conversations that usually went on in the office. I was getting more work done than I thought because I could stop and take a call, or other things. I think if your boss is happy with your work, I would leave it there. It doesn’t sound like you are the type of person who would neglect her responsibiities. – Billy

Such a shame that so much of ‘church’ ignores the commandments of God….
Since taking into our own hands the responsibility for understanding God’s word,
his statutes and commands, making an effort to understand why the ‘church’
cow-toes to ROME and it’s authority over the 4th commandment and the holidays
(or rather appointed times). we are now understanding so much more, our knowledge
has increased and we find great joy in keeping Sabbath and the true Holy Days.

I used to work from home for 12 years. Occasionally I had to go to the office for trainings or mandatory meetings. What I learned from those trips to the office is that everyone takes breaks only the brakes we take at home look different from the breaks that are taken from people that work directly in the office. While breaks taken from people in the office are often for Chitchatting about personal matters, my breaks were used to help me, my family and even time with the Lord. I was a responsible, efficient and effective worker just like others, but my “office breaks” just looked different.
