Today’s Promise
I Am the Salt of the Earth
Matthew 5:13
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
You Are Salt
Jesus called and designed you to be salt in the earth. He didn’t say you should be the salt, but through Him, you are the salt.
Here are four qualities of the salty Christian.
Salt is Distinctive. It’s hard to hide the taste of salt. Just a little on your finger and you know it’s there. Salt is so distinctive; you can’t miss it. In the same way, Jesus calls you to be different from the world around you. The Christian should never be able to blend in with the crowd. Christ in you should always make you distinctive.
Salt Preserves. For thousands of years, people have used salt to keep meat from decaying. Salt dries food, but it also kills germs and microbes. The world around us is decaying. Without a Christian influence, our world quickly falls into sin and destruction. As we have removed God from our national conversation, we have seen violence, hatred, and destruction increase. Like salt, you preserve the world around you. As Christians, we must stand against sin and decay in our world.
Salt Enhances. Salt is used to enhance the flavor of food. As a Christian, you bring joy and hope into every situation. When you walk in the room, the Spirit of Christ comes with you. The blessings in your life should overflow to the world around you, making everyone you encounter better.
Salt Heals. Sometimes it’s painful, but salt heals. God has made you an agent of healing in the world around you. There are so many hurting people in our world God wants to use you to bring healing and restoration.
Jesus did add a warning about salt losing is power. When salt is no longer salty, it loses it’s value. As you stay close to the Father, you can live these four qualities before a world in desperate need of spiritual salt.
Look at that promise again.

Make these confessions.
- I am the salt of the earth.
- As I stay close to the Father, I stay salty.
- I bring the distinctive presence of God into every situation.
- God uses me to bring hope and healing to the world around me.
In Jesus name,
Amen
If there was ever a time when the world needed Christians to be salt, it is now. You can be an agent of change in your circle of influence. This week, be the salt of the earth. Be an encouragement to everyone you meet.

I believe God has used me to be salt in the world by having the ability to have understanding through the eyes of others situations but also the gift of discernment. It allows me to listen before speaking or acting but also, when I do, speak the truth in love. It’s because of this, that I am also able to receive the truth in love. There are times when it remains difficult in some situations. The miraculous grace and mercy of the Lord is everlasting and by His Spirit guides me through.
Charlene, God bless you. Thank you for sharing your story. As we allow Him, God uses us. – Billy
