I Will Number My Days
So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12
Number Your Days
On this last day of the year, God reminds us to number our days.
If we aren’t careful, life tends to slip by. We’ve all had the experience of picking up our phone just to check our messages, and before we knew it, an hour had passed doing nothing but scrolling down the screen.
Our days and years can slip by just as quickly. Last year’s goals become this year’s goals, and this year’s goals become next year’s. Pretty soon, years slip by with nothing accomplished.
The older I get, the more I realize how quickly life slips by.
God commands us to number our days. Remember, every command is a reminder that God has already given us the ability to do it.
Here are a few thoughts on numbering your days.
Numbering your days reminds you that you have a limited number of days. Your time here on earth is short.
I heard about a man who filled a glass jar with marbles. Each marble represented a week in his life expectancy. Every Monday, he would remove one marble as a reminder that his days were getting fewer and fewer.
Are you using each day to build the kingdom of God, or are you spending it watching one of the dozen screens you have available? Did you spend it strengthening your relationships and serving the Lord or wasting it on unimportant things?
Numbering your days teaches you to treasure your days. Numbering your days is making the most of the time God has given you. When you number your days, you become aware of just how quickly life passes.
Numbering your days reminds you to live with intention. The great philosopher Dolly Parton once said, “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” Numbering your days is living with purpose and intent, not just drifting from one day to the next.
Numbering your days reminds you to live every day for the glory of God. No matter how many days God gives you, you must use each to bring glory and honor to Him.
Finally, numbering your days builds wisdom in your soul.
Every moment is precious. Every day and year is a gift from the Lord. Count every day, and use it for God’s glory.
Look at that promise again.
So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom. – Psalm 90:12
Make these confessions.
- I number my days, knowing life can easily slip by.
- I treasure every day God gives me.
- I live life with intention, following God’s guidance.
- I use every day for God’s glory.
In Jesus’ Name
Amen
When we number our days, we take advantage of every day and every moment. We walk in wisdom and use every day to the glory of God.
