Today’s Promise

Jesus Calls Me Friend
No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
John 15:15
Slave or Friend?
Are you a friend or slave of Jesus? How you answer that question determines how you live the Christian life.
How you see yourself before God really makes a big difference in how you live your Christian life.
So many Christians approach God with fear, guilt, and shame because they don’t understand who they are in Christ.
If you see yourself as a slave to Christ, you’ll practice blind obedience to please your master, but there’s little relationship with Him. Slaves fear their masters and do as they are told.
But if you see yourself as a friend of Christ, you’ll want to spend time with Him. You will want to know Him. You’ll understand you are always welcome in His presence.
Your Best Friend
Your best friend knows you better than anyone else. Your best friend knows your failures and fears but still loves you and defends you.
As a friend of God, even though He knows all your shortcomings, He still loves and welcomes you into His presence.
As a friend of God, you are obedient not because you fear Him but because you want to please your friend.
Slaves are tools for completing the master’s will. Friends are partners working together to accomplish the mission. Jesus invites you to partner with Him in bringing about the Kingdom of God.
A Friend of God
As a friend of Jesus, you enter boldly into His presence and know He will welcome you.
As a friend of Jesus, you partner with Him in sharing the Gospel with everyone you know.
Jesus invites you into a life-giving friendship with Him. There is no need to live in fear or shame when Jesus is your friend.
Look at that promise again.
No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. – John 15:15
Make these confessions.
- Jesus calls me His friend,
- I am not a slave but a friend.
- I am His partner in building the Kingdom of God.
- As His friend, I know Him, and He knows me.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
Knowing that Jesus is your friend transforms the Christian life. You aren’t a slave to Christ but a friend who knows Christ, and He knows you.
