Jesus Gives Strength in Temptation
For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
Hebrews 2:18
We all face temptation. The good news is that Jesus stands with us in the temptation, giving us the strength to overcome.
You Will Face Temptation
As a Christian, you will be tempted. Every day the world around you and the kingdom of darkness come against you. Their goal is to move your focus away from the Lord and move you from obedient fellowship to independent living. If they can’t cause you to sin, they will try and distract you and keep your eyes off the Lord Jesus.
It’s easy to feel like you are the only one begin tempted. Surely other Christians aren’t struggling with sinful temptations like you. Let me remind you that every Christian faces temptation. Even the Lord Jesus was tempted.
Jesus Was Tempted
Even though Jesus was perfect in all His ways, He faced temptations just like you and me. His humanity opened the door for Him to understand our difficulties and weaknesses. According to Hebrews 4:15, Jesus was tempted in every way you and I are. He experienced hunger, thirst, anger, and weariness. Every temptation you have experienced, Jesus gone through as well.
Jesus Helps You
Because He was tempted in the same way we are, He understands our temptation and comes to help us. In our temptation, Jesus helps us in three ways.
First, 1 Corinthians 10:13 says that God provides a way of escape in every temptation. No matter how strong the temptation, God always provides a way out.
Second, God will never allow you to be tempted beyond your ability to have victory.
Finally, because Jesus has gone through temptations, He knows how difficult they are to resist. He is right there in the middle of the temptation to strengthen and help you. In the time of temptation, He is with you, encouraging you to walk in obedience and depend on His power and strength. He gives you the strength to overcome every temptation that Satan brings into your life.
When you are faced with a temptation, know that Jesus is right there with you. Look to Him for victory over each temptation. You will find strength as never before through the power of Christ in you.
Look at that promise again.
For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. – Hebrews 2:18
Make these confessions.
- Jesus has gone through every temptation I face.
- Jesus understands what it’s like to be tempted.
- In every temptation, Jesus gives me strength.
- I can walk in victory over temptation through Christ in me.

When temptations come, Jesus will give you the strength to resist and overcome every temptation that comes into your life.
