That I May Please the Lord
Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
2 Corinthians 5:9
Your Big Goal
What is your one big goal? What are you working toward with all your heart? Today, we are looking at one of life’s most important and worthy goals.
There are some goals so worthy they demand a lifelong pursuit. Pleasing the Lord is one such goal.
We all have goals. Some of us want to lose weight, and others want to save money, take a trip, or change jobs. There’s a lot of talk about goals and how to set and accomplish them. Last time I checked, there were over 40,000 products on Amazon related to goals.
Big Goals Inspire
Experts tell us to set big goals that inspire us. A goal should move you toward becoming a better person and living a better life.
Setting goals brings focus to our life. If you set a goal to lose 10 pounds, you evaluate everything you put in your mouth. Even that slice of cheesecake is no longer a temptation if your goal is strong enough.
Goals set our lives into motion and help us get through difficult times.
I Will Please the Lord
The Apostle Paul had one big goal, one main ambition worthy of giving his life to accomplish. This one goal gave him the strength to overcome the incredible challenges he faced.
After being stoned with rocks, shipwrecked, beaten, and imprisoned, most of us would have given up. Paul’s one goal gave him the strength to overcome all these difficulties.
Paul made it his ambition, his life goal, to please the Lord. That may sound like a simple statement, but for Paul, it served as the anchor for his soul during all the various persecutions he suffered.
A Worthy Goal
What a simple yet worthy Goal. I will please the Lord. Forget about everyone else and what they think. No matter the situation, what life throws at me, or what I go through, my one goal is to please God.
Why not make that your goal today?
Like a person on a diet, are you willing to evaluate everything in your life against pleasing the Lord?
Would you be willing to set aside every other goal for this one lifelong pursuit?
What would change in your attitude, actions, or language if you made it your goal to please the Lord in all things?
Together, let’s set a goal of pleasing the Lord. Pleasing Him in everything we do, say, or think. Let’s please Him by staying connected to Him throughout our day and walking in complete obedience to Him.
This one goal transcends our life here and reaches into eternity. Let’s join Paul in making our one ambition, our life goal, to please the Lord in all things.
Look at that promise again.
Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. – 2 Corinthians 5:9
Make these confessions.
- My life goal is to please the Lord.
- Every other goal is second to this one lifelong pursuit.
- When life gets hard, I will hold onto this one goal.
- I agree with the Apostle Paul that my goal is to please the Lord.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
As you make your goal to please the Lord, you will be amazed at the change you see in your life and your walk with the Lord.
