Today’s Promise
The Word of Christ Dwells in Me
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
The Word of Christ
Today, we are focusing on the first few words of this verse. “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you.” Every command of God is accompanied by a promise. God always gives you the power to accomplish what He commands. Paul encourages us to let the word of Christ richly dwell in us.
The word of Christ is the teaching of Christ. However, it’s not limited to just His specific words. The word of Christ is all the teachings of the Bible.
Take Up Residence
How do you allow the word of Christ to dwell in you? The word “dwell” means to take up residence. Letting the word of Christ dwell in you is allowing God’s word to become such a part of your heart and mind that it is entirely at home in you. It’s the picture of a good friend who comes to your house and feels welcomed and relaxed.
You allow the word of Christ to dwell in you by getting to know the Bible. God’s primary method of speaking to you is through the Bible. The more you know God’s Word, the easier it is for Him to speak to you.
Obey His Word
You allow the word of Christ to dwell in you by living in obedience to His word. The more you obey the Word of God, the more your heart is open to His voice. As you obey God’s Word, your mind, heart, and attitudes change into the likeness of Christ.
The more the word of Christ dwells in you, the more it becomes your standard of truth. As you allow God’s word deep into your heart, His word becomes your word. The word of Christ becomes a natural part of your thinking and speech.
Richly
Finally, don’t stop at just letting the word of Christ dwell in you. Let it dwell in you richly. There is always more of His word to receive.
As the Word of Christ dwells in you richly, you will develop a new level of wisdom in everything you do. God’s wisdom will become a part of you. You become an encouragement to everyone around you.
Look at that promise again.
