You Can Call on the Lord

In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, For You will answer me.
Psalm 86:7

When Troubles Comes
What do you do when you face a significant problem that rocks your world? No matter who you are, there are days of trouble. Sometimes, you have caused them, and sometimes, trouble just seems to appear at your doorstep.

Right now, you may be in a day of trouble. With everything going on in the world, many of us are facing days of trouble.

Your day of trouble may be that your life savings have taken a nose-dive over the last few months, or you are facing a major relationship issue. You may be facing a health issue you don’t know how to handle.

Since all of us will face a day of trouble, how should we respond?

The first way you can respond is with fear and worry. It’s really easy to climb on the “what if?” train and let it run uncontrolled through your mind. What if I lose my job? What if we can’t make the car payment? What if, what if, what if? The “What if?” train is long and fast, and once it gets going, it’s hard to stop.

You can also respond by hopping on the complaint train. It is easy to say this isn’t fair; I don’t deserve this. This is not my fault, and on and on. The “complaint” train runs just as fast and is just as hard to stop as the “what if” train.

However, a better way to respond is to call on the Lord. King David had his share of troubled days. Before he became king, the former King Saul had placed a bounty on his head and was out for his life. He faced wars, enemies, betrayal, and even murder in his own family.

Yet David learned the secret to facing days of trouble: He called on the Lord. He knew that when he called on the Lord, God would answer.

When your day of trouble comes, call on the Lord. Don’t catch the “what if?” or complaint train. When you call on God, He will answer. He will never leave you to face your day of trouble alone. He is ready and will answer you when you call on Him.

Look at that promise again.

In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, For You will answer me. – Psalm 86:7

Make these confessions.

  • When trouble comes, I will not fear or complain.
  • When trouble comes, I will call on the Lord.
  • When I call on the Lord, I know He will answer me.
  • God will never leave me to face my troubles and problems alone.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

So when you face a significant problem, don’t let worry and fear to fill your life. Don’t complain. Call on the Lord, and He will answer. He will be with you in your day of trouble.

What a comforting thought: we can call upon the Lord in our trouble and He will hear and answer. As the psalm says, “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised. So shall I be saved from my enemies.”
