You Can Overcome Every Temptation

For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
Hebrews 1:18

We all face temptation. The good news is that Jesus is with us in every temptation. He comes to our rescue when Satan comes against us.

You Will be Tempted

As a Christian, you will be tempted. Every day the world around you and the invisible kingdom of darkness come against you. Their goal is to move you from obedient dependence on God to independent rebellion toward God. If they can’t cause you to sin, they will try and distract you and keep your eyes off the Lord Jesus.

It’s easy to feel like you are the only one being tempted. “Surely other Christians aren’t struggling with the sinful temptations I experience.” Let me remind you that every Christian faces temptation.

Jesus Faced Temptations

Even though Jesus was perfect in all His ways, He faced temptations just like you and me. His humanity opened the door for Him to understand our temptations and weaknesses. According to Hebrews 4:15, Jesus was tempted in every way you and I are. He experienced hunger, thirst, anger, and weariness. Jesus has experienced every temptation you experience.

Because He was tempted in the same way you are, He understands your temptation and comes to your aid. In your temptation, Jesus helps you in three ways.

First, He provides a way of escape. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says that God provides a way out of every temptation. No matter how strong the temptation is, God always provides a way out.

Second, God never allows you to be tempted beyond your ability. He holds back Satan’s attack so that you can always have victory.

Finally, Jesus knows how difficult temptations can be. Because Jesus went through every temptation you face, He knows how difficult they are to resist. He is right there in the middle of the temptation, strengthening and helping you. In times of temptation, He is with you, encouraging you to walk in obedience and depend on His power and strength. He gives you the power to overcome every temptation Satan brings into your life.

When you are faced with a temptation, know that Jesus is right there with you. Look to Him for help in every temptation. You will find strength for victory as never before through the power of Christ in you.

Look at that promise again.

For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. – Hebrews 2:18

Make these confessions.

  • Jesus has gone through every temptation I face.
  • Jesus understands what it’s like to be tempted.
  • In every temptation, Jesus provides a way out.
  • I can walk in victory over temptation through Christ in me.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

When temptations come, Jesus will give you the strength to resist and overcome every temptation that comes into your life.
