Today’s Promise
1 Corinthians 3:16
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Let that promise sink in for a moment. You are a temple of God. God’s presence dwells in you.
As a follower of Christ, God’s presence dwells in you. His spirit has taken up residence in your heart.
Imagine, the spirit of God living in you. Wherever you go, whatever you do, God’s spirit is there with you.
In the Old Testament God dwelt in the temple of Jerusalem. The temple was an icon of God’s presence. Inside the temple was a special place called the Holy of Holies. In this chamber, the presence of God was made manifest. This room was so holy that only once a year, the High Priest could enter. Even then, he entered with fear and trembling. However, now God’s spirit dwells in the hearts of believers.
Jesus promised when He left, He would send the Holy Spirit of God to dwell in those who followed Him. God’s presence would move from the temple to the hearts of Christians like you.
The temple was the symbol of God’s presence in the nation of Israel. It was a reminder that God was with them. As the temple of God, you are His representative to the world around you of God’s presence.
The temple was also a place of worship. People would regularly gather to lift up praise to the Lord. As His temple, you are a house of Worship. Every aspect of your life is to bring glory and honor to Christ.
The temple was a place of God’s manifest presence. God’s presence rested or abided in the temple. As his temple, you bring God’s presence into every situation of life. Wherever you God, God’s presence goes with you.
Let’s review that promise again,
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? – 1 Corinthians 3:16
Confess this with me.
I am the temple of God.
God’s spirit dwells in me.
Wherever I go, I bring the presence of God with me.
I represent the presence of God to the world around me.
My life brings glory and honor to God in all I do.
