Today’s Promise

I Am Chosen By God

John 15:16

You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain.

It’s a little hard to wrap your head around this, but the God of the universe chose you.

He spoke to your heart and drew you to Himself. Before the world even began, God chose you to be his child.

Now before you go all theological on me, set aside all the theological implications, arguments you may have heard about predestination and man’s free will. It’s easy to get sidetracked and miss the beauty of this incredible promise. To be honest, after all these years in ministry, I still struggle with bringing them together.

For just a moment, focus on this incredible picture of God’s love toward you. God chose you to be His child. You had nothing of value to offer God. You were no better than anyone else. The Bible says that on your very best day, your very best works are like filthy rags before Him. (Isaiah 64:6) There is absolutely no reason for God to choose you, but He did. He chose you and called you to be His child.

Imagine a couple walking into an orphanage with the desire to adopt a new member into their family. For some reason, they are drawn to a particular little child. That child has nothing to offer them, nothing to justify becoming a new member of their family. However, they choose that little girl because their heart reaches out to her. They see in her what she can’t see in herself. Their love, not her worthiness, brings her into this new family.

One day God looked down and saw you. You were filthy, defeated, and a captive to your own sinful desires. You had no hope, no future, and no spiritual family. His love reached out and touched you. He chose you for His own. God began working in your heart. The Holy Spirit began calling out to you until by faith you came to Him. Now you are his child, His son or daughter, part of the family of God.

Look at that promise one more time.

You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain. – John 15:16

Confess this with me.

Before I ever knew Him, God chose me.
I had and have nothing to offer Him.
It was His incredible love that reached out to me.
I am His child today because He loves me so much.

In Jesus Name,
Amen

God loved you so much that He chose you to be His own. If you can grasp just a little of this promise, it will transform your life.

Thank you for that devotional. Sometimes, that old liar, Satan himself, tries to convince me that God did not choose me, I just think I’m a chosen one. He whispers in my ear that my behavior since I have supposedly become His child is not what a true child of the living God would act like. These thoughts overwhelm me, sometimes and I begin to believe that maybe I’m mistaken, that I only think that God chose me, it’s my imagination wishing I could belong to the Lord. I know, it’s a salvation lie. I understand and believe “once saved, always saved,” if only the Devil would stop telling me that I really, truly was never once saved. I do have a date, I do have a time with which I try to chase Satan away, however, I am still plagued by this “thorn” that my heart never never changed. He says things like, “A real child of God would think of God more and put Him first in her life. She would return His love more fervently and choose God over small selfish things in which I do not do. Therefore, Cindy, I have tricked you into this hope that you really belong to God, but all the while you are still mine.” I need prayer, wisdom, and encouragement to help me combat this trickery from the Enemy. I realize Satan cannot read my mind and this is the first time I have written out my feelings, my struggle for all to read, including the mean old Devil; but I feel it is a dire problem that needs to be delt with now! Please, if anyone can give me some sound, Biblical advice on my dilemma and how to deal with it, I would be most grateful.

Good morning Cindy. God bless you for your courage to face the fight and invite others to come along side you! My advice is that you study the armor of God. All pieces of the armor are relevant to a victorious life in Christ but the Helmet of Salvation is especially important for the battle you are currently facing. The helmet protects our minds from the lies of the enemy and our ears from his whispers. The helmet reminds of us who we are and Whose we are. It secures our identity as saved children of God. It’s found in Ephesians 6:10-20. You are in my prayers! Be blessed

Thank you, Naomi, for the words of wisdom you shared with me. I will commit to reading Ephesians 6:10-20 regularly, trying to make it the first thing I do each morning. And, forgiving myself, if I miss a day. God truly spoke through you today. I have been checking for comments of encouragement and yours are exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks again, grace and peace to you in the Name of Jesus Christ! ~Cindy♥️

      Cindy,
Thank you for being so honest and transparent. There are many people who are in your situation. One thing I noticed is that everything you said was based on your performance. You are not going to be good enough to live the Christian life. It’s not about your performance, but about the grace of God. If you came to Christ in faith and trust Him as your salvation, then that’s that. Go back and look at the episode on condemnation. When you focus on your performance, you will always walk in condemnation. If you could live the Christian life, you wouldn’t need Jesus. Remember, Jesus invites us all to come to Him. He will not confuse anyone who comes to him in faith through Jesus Christ. I’m praying for you. – Billy

Hi Billy! Thank you for your accurate assessment of my comments. I have certainly been focused on performing for Jesus. It is in an effort to please Him, but I am reminded that even my best works are as filthy rags. Living and walking in the Spirit, remembering to put on the full armor of God, as Naomi reminded me to do, will surely give me protection from the Enemy. I am so thankful for your taking time to encourage me today. Your words of wisdom have greatly helped me. Thanks again, and may the Lord bless and keep you and give you peace. ~Cindy
