Today’s Promise

I Am a Friend of God

John 15:15

No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

How you see yourself before God makes a big difference in how you live the Christian life.

So many Christians approach God with fear, guilt, and shame because they don’t understand who they are in Christ.

If you see yourself as a slave, you’ll practice blind obedience to please the master, but there’s very little relationship. Slaves just do as they are told. Slaves fear their master.

But if you see yourself as a friend of Christ, you’ll want to spend time with Him. You’ll know you are always welcome in His presence.

Your best friends know you better than anyone else. A friend knows your failures and fears, but still loves and welcomes you.

As a friend of God, even though He knows all your shortcomings, He still loves and welcomes you.

As a friend of God, you are obedience not because you fear Him, but because you want to please your friend.

Slaves are tools for completing the master’s will. Friends are partners working together to accomplish the mission. Jesus invites you to partner with Him in bringing about the Kingdom of God.

As a friend of Jesus, You enter boldly into His presence and know that you are always welcome.

Jesus invites you into a life-giving friendship with Him. There is no need to live in fear or shame when Jesus is your friend.

Let’s look at this promise one more time

No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. – John 15:15

Confess this with me.

Jesus calls me His friend.
In Christ, I am a friend of God.
I am not a slave, but a friend.
My service to Him is an expression of that relationship.
I am His partner in building the Kingdom of God.
As His friend, I have fellowship with Him and He with me.
I am never afraid or ashamed because Jesus calls me His friend.

In Jesus Name,
Amen
