Give Thanks to the Lord, for He is Good

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Psalm 107:1

Thanksgiving Begins with Thankfulness

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving begins with thankfulness. God commands us to be a thankful people. When we are thankful, we confess that God is the source of all we have.

Hopefully, you are anticipating a time of thanksgiving with friends or family. I hope during your celebration, you will take some time to be truly thankful.

Your first thought may be, “Hey, what do I have to be thankful for?” No matter what your situation, you can be thankful. If you live in the United States or other developed countries, you are better than most of the world, even on your worst day.

  • It is so easy to focus on what we don’t have and forget all the wonderful blessings we do have. If you can turn on your faucet and fill a glass of water, you are better off than 1/3 of the world’s population.
  • If you own a car (no matter how old), you live in the top 9% compared to the rest of the world.
  • If you make more than $2.50 a day, around $75 a month, 1/2 the people in the world wish they were as blessed as you.
  • If you have survived the Covid-19 pandemic, you are better off than the 5.3 million people who have died from it.

I want to remind you that you are blessed. Sure, things may not be perfect, but they could be much worse. You can be thankful today. Just that you are listening or reading this post means you have a computer or phone, internet access, and the electricity to keep them charged.

If there is one message I hope you receive from The Daily Promise is that God is good. His goodness flows over you daily. He is your provision, your protection, and your Father.

“For He is good” shows up seven times in the Old Testament. Each time it is proceeded by “Give thanks to the Lord.” Thankfulness is our response to God’s goodness.

“For His lovingkindness is everlasting” means that God has a commitment love for you that will never change. Even when you are disobedient or wander away from His presence, He still watches over you.

Because God is good, and because His commitment love for you is forever, you can be thankful.

Look at that promise again.

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. – Psalm 107:1

Make these confessions.

  • Thank you, Father, for your goodness and care for me.
  • Thank you for blessing me in ways I easily forget.
  • Thank you that your love is never-ending.
  • Thank you for the salvation I have in Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ name.
Amen

Take a moment to itemize all the things you can be thankful for today. I recently saw a post that read, “what if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?” We can all be more thankful.

Let me say thank you to you for reading The Daily Promise. I am so blessed to share the promises of God with you every day. Thank you for reading The Daily Promise. I hope each day is a blessing to you and a reminder of God’s goodness and promise.

What are you thankful for today? (Share your thoughts in the comments below)

THANK YOU, Billy, for reminding us all that if we are listening to this broadcast, we are more blessed than the majority of the world’s population. We often become complacent and even self entitled without the perspective of just how good we have it. God is good and may I never take for granted how He has blessed me in so many countless ways. Happy Thanksgiving!
