Today’s Promise

My Sin is Forgiven and Forgotten

Hebrews 10:17

And their sins and their lawless deeds, I will remember no more.

The Problem of Guilt

How many times does guilt keep you from all God has for you?

We all experience guilt. Guilt can be a positive thing. The Holy Spirit can use guilt to bring about conviction and repentance from your sins. More often, Satan uses guilt against you. Satan uses guilt to keep you pushed down, shamed, and condemned. He whispers, “How can you be a Christian and do that? God will never forgive you. You are never going to please God. You are a second rate Christian. You are an embarrassment to God.”

Have you ever heard those words, or felt that way? Have you ever felt the sting of guilt for your past sins? God promises to forgive and forget your sins. If you are like me, I can forgive, but forgetting is a different story.

God Forgives and Forgets

When God forgives your sin, He forgets your sin.

One day a pastor heard God say to him, “Do you know that man’s past?” The pastor said, “Well, no, I don’t.” God replied, “Neither do I.”

God intentionally chooses to forget your forgiven sin. It doesn’t matter if your past was good or bad when your sin was forgiven; God forgot it.

You may be like a lot of people who have a hard time forgiving themselves. It seems they have a harder time forgiving themselves than God does. They hold onto their guilt and ask forgiveness for the same sin over and over. They confess sins God has already forgotten.

You don’t have to live in guilt because God has forgiven your sin. He not only forgives your sin but forgets it. He doesn’t look at you and see your sin. He looks at you and sees the righteousness of Christ. Your sin has been forgiven and forgotten through your faith and the blood of Jesus Christ.

Let’s look at that promise once again.

And their sins and their lawless deeds, I will remember no more. – Hebrews 10:!7

Make this confession after me.

  • When I sin, I confess my sin, and God forgives and forgets my sin.
  • I will not allow guilt from my past sin to hold me back.
  • I will not allow Satan to put shame, guilt, or condemnation on me.
  • Jesus has forgiven and forgotten my sin.

In Jesus name,
Amen
