Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
The Desires of Your Heart
At first glance, this promise seems to be a heavenly credit card with no credit limit. God wants to give you the desires of your heart. God will give you everything you want. It says so right here.
So that new car, new boat, new house, perfect family, and fulfilling job are all yours just for the claiming.
Now, before you get too carried away, there is a condition to this promise. You must delight in the Lord.
What does it mean to delight in the Lord?
If you have ever been in love, you’ve tasted what it is like to delight in someone. You find yourself thinking about them, do things to please them, and hoping to see them as much as possible.
Delighting in the Lord is focusing your heart and life around Him. It is falling in love with the Lord. Delighting in the Lord is focusing your attention, desires, and hopes on Him. Delighting in the Lord is finding meaning, purpose, and fulfillment through your relationship with God.
Trusting in God
Trusting God is the beginning point for delighting in Him. Trusting God is understanding that everything I need for life, I find in Him. He is my source and my provider.
I trust Him that He is bringing everything I need into my life. The more I trust Him, the more I can delight in Him.
As I delight in the Lord, He begins to mold my desires to His desires. Our true heart desires go beyond that new car, house, or job. The true desires of our hearts are for peace, meaning, love, joy, and happiness. These won’t be found in the things you own but in the God you know.
Look at that promise once again.
Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4
Make these confessions.
As I delight in the Lord, He gives me my desires.
As I delight in the Lord, His desires become my desires.
As I trust in the Lord, I grow in my delight for Him.
The true desires of my heart are fulfilled in my relationship with Christ.
In Jesus Name,
As you delight in the Lord, you find new meaning and fulfillment. As your desires become His desires, He gives you the desires of your heart.
