Today’s Promise
God Gives Me the Desires of My Heart
Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
A Heavenly Credit Card
At first glance, this verse seems to be a heavenly credit card with no credit limit. God wants to give me the desires of my heart. God has to give me everything I want. It says so right here.
So that new car, new boat, new house, perfect family, and fulfilling job are all mine to claim.
Before you get too carried away, there is a condition to this promise. You must delight in the Lord.
Delight?
But what does it mean to delight in the Lord?
If you have ever been in love, you’ve tasted what it is like to delight in someone. You find yourself thinking about them, do things to please them, and hoping to see them as much as possible.
Delighting in the Lord is focusing your heart and life around Him. It is falling in love with the Lord. Delighting in the Lord is focusing your attention, desires, and hopes in Him. Delighting in the Lord is finding meaning, purpose, and fulfillment through your relationship with God.
It Starts With Trusting God
Trusting God is the beginning point for delighting in Him. Trusting God is understanding that everything I need for life, I find in Him. He is my source and my provider.
I trust Him that He is bringing everything I need into my life. The more I trust Him, the more I can delight in Him.
As I delight in the Lord, He begins to mold my desires to His desires. Our true heart desires go beyond that new car, house, or job. The true desires of our heart are for peace, meaning, love, joy, and happiness. They won’t be found in the things we own, but in the God we know.
Look at that promise once again.
Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4
Make This confession.
- As I delight in the Lord, He gives me my desires.
- As I delight in the Lord, His desires become my desires.
- As I trust in the Lord, my delight in Him grows.
- The true desires of my heart are fulfilled in my relationship with Christ.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
Three Year Anniversary
It’s hard to believe, but I’m approaching my three anniversary of this ministry. On October 11, I’ll be hosting an online celebration of what God has done over the last three years. I’ll have some special guests, you’ll hear about how the ministry began, and some exciting news about a new vision for the ministry God has put on my heart. I hope you will join me.
In preparation for the event, I’d like to hear from you. If God has done a work in your life through The Daily Promise or the National Prayer Room ministry, I’d love to hear from you.
