God Gives the True Desires of Your Heart
Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4
The Desires of Your Heart
When you put your faith and trust in the Lord, God gives you the desires of your heart.
At first glance, this promise seems like a heavenly credit card with no credit limit. You pick out what you want, and God has to give it to you, right? God has to provide you with everything you want. It says so right here.
So, that new car, new boat, new house, perfect family, and fulfilling job are all yours just for the claiming.
Now, before we get too carried away, there is a condition to this promise. You must delight in the Lord.
What does it mean to delight in the Lord?
If you have ever been in love, you’ve tasted what it is like to delight in someone. You find yourself thinking about them, doing things to please them, and hoping to see them as much as possible.
Delighting in the Lord is focusing your heart and life around Him. It is falling in love with the Lord. Delighting in the Lord is focusing your attention, desires, and hopes on Him. Delighting in the Lord is finding meaning, purpose, and fulfillment through your relationship with God.
Delight in Him
Trusting God is the beginning point for delighting in Him. Trusting God means understanding that I find in Him everything I need for life. He is my source and my provider.
I trust Him that He is bringing everything I need into my life. The more I trust Him, the more I can delight in Him.
As you delight in the Lord, He molds your desires to His desires. Your true heart’s desire goes beyond a new car, house, or job. The true desires of your heart are peace, meaning, love, joy, and happiness. You won’t find these in the things you own, but in the God you know.
Look at that promise once again.
Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4
Make these confessions.
- As I delight in the Lord, God’s desires become my desires.
- As I delight in the Lord, He gives me my desires.
- As I trust in the Lord, I grow in my delight for Him.
- I fulfill the true desires of my heart through my relationship with Christ.

I delight in My LORD by reading His WORD and being conformed to His image. By seeking Him, By drawing close to Him, By praying to Him and casting all my cares upon Him. By LOVING HIM, and Praising, and Thanking My PRECIOUS LORD JESUS, for THEIR IS NONE LIKE HIM . One way I delight in the Lord is to go through the list of all the things the Lord has done for me and given me and being thankful to Him. It helps me to love Him more when I consider all He has done for me. Your goodness to me is evident in all you do. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
