Today’s Promise

God’s Goodness and Mercy Follow Me

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23:6

Goodness and Mercy

Did you know God’s goodness and mercy are following you right now? No matter where you go, God’s presence is with you today.

In this last verse of this most well-known psalms, David declares that God’s goodness and mercy have always been with him.

As David looked back over his life, he saw that even though he had been unfaithful, God had always been faithful. God had poured His goodness and unfailing love on him throughout His life. David had times of blatant sin and periods of deep unfaithfulness, yet because of God’s mercy, the Lord had never failed to be with him.

This declaration is an Old Testament version of Romans 8:28. God is working all things together for our good.

God’s Goodness

God’s goodness is His abundant, loving care for you. It is God’s goodness that brings His blessing and favor into your life. His mercy inclines His heart to relieve your burden and pain.

Because God was so faithful to David in the past, he was confident that God would continue to be there for him. “All the days of my life” is a confession that God has been good in the past and will be good in the future.

You may not think or feel like it’s true, but God is pouring out his goodness and commitment love on you right now. Even when you are unfaithful, God’s commitment love is working for your good.

In the future, you will look back at this time and see how God’s blessing, protection, and provision were flowing over you. God’s goodness has followed you throughout your life.

When Your Faith Falters

If you are facing a difficult time, take a moment to review how God has worked in your life in the past. Thank Him for all the times He has provided for your needs and protected you from harm.

Just as David looked back on his life and saw the goodness of God, you will remember God’s blessings over the years. As you do, you will find your faith strengthen and your hope renewed.

You will find your fear and worry subside and will join David in saying God’s goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life.

Look at that promise again.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. – Psalm 23:6

Make these confessions.

  • God’s goodness is flowing over me today.
  • God’s mercy is following me wherever I go.
  • Just as God has blessed and protected me in the past, He will do so in the future.
  • I will not worry or fear because His goodness and mercy are following me today.

In Jesus name,
Amen

When you’re discouraged and your faith is shrinking, remember God’s goodness and provision in the past. What He has done before, He will do again for you. His goodness and mercy will follow you throughout your life.
