Today’s Promise

God’s Promises are Great and Precious

He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
2 Peter 1:4

From the opening verses to the closing chapter, the Bible is filled with the promises of God. Each promise is a statement of His love and commitment to you.

8,000 Promises

The Bible contains over 8,000 promises. Each one of those is a declaration of God’s commitment to you. Every promise is a statement of God’s love. Even God’s commands are connected to a promise. God never commands you to do something He has not already empowered you to do.

You could say the Bible is the written promise of God’s love and salvation.

As the Apostle Peter talks about God’s promises, it seems he just can’t add enough words to describe the wonderful promises of God. I can imagine Peter working through this statement as he wrote this letter.

“God has given us promises.” That’s good, but it’s not enough. How about “God has given us precious promises.” That’s better, but not quite there. How about “God has given us great and precious promises.” It’s almost there; how about “God has given us very great and precious promises.” I think even then, he just had to stop. No words could truly express the wonder of God’s promises to His children.

Every Promise has a Purpose

Peter goes on to say that every one of God’s promises is given for a purpose. In this verse, Peter lists two purposes.

First, God’s promises allow us to participate in His divine nature. When you came to Christ, God did a miraculous work in your life. He gave you a new nature. He also placed His divine nature in you. Every promise gives you greater insight into the incredible work God has done in your life.

Second, God’s promises help you escape this corrupted world. Ever since Adam and Eve sinned, our world has been falling apart. Sin has marred the earth and corrupted every culture. The world is completely opposed to God. The only way to live above the world and the temptations that surround you is to claim and hold onto the powerful promises of God. His promises give you hope for tomorrow and strength for today.

Most Christians have no idea of the wonderful promises God has laid out in the Bible. They don’t understand the incredible power and transformation Christ wants to do in their life. Because they don’t know the promises of God, they live in bondage to sin and the world around them.

As you learn to claim the promises of God, your faith will grow. With each new promise you claim, your walk with God will grow stronger and deeper each day. Sin’s power is broken, and you will walk in freedom as never before.

Look at that promise again.

He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. – 2 Peter 1:4

Make these confessions.

  • God has given me great and precious promises.
  • His promises remind me He is working in my life.
  • His promises keep me close to Him and away from the world.
  • As I claim His promises, my faith grows.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen

God has given you so many incredible promises in His Word. His promises give you the power for living and build your faith in Christ.

1 John 14:15 Now this is the confidence we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His Will, He hears us, and if we know that He hears us, whatever we ak, we know we have the petitions desired by Him.

As long as we know what God’s word says, we can come with confidence and ask. Expect to receive!

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
