Heaven Cheers You On

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
Hebrews 12:1

Sometimes the Christian life can feel like a marathon. The road is long and sometimes challenging—however, those who have gone before you are cheering you on to victory in Christ.

Running the Race

Imagine for a moment you are in a race. This race is not a quick dash, but an extended marathon. As you run, you feel like giving up. You just aren’t sure you have what it takes to finish the race.

As you begin each new lap, you aren’t sure if you can make it to the next. However, as you come around the last curve, you see the stands filled with people cheering you to victory. They clap, yell, and encourage you to keep going. Knowing the stadium is filled with supportive friends, you move forward, finding new strength and courage to complete the race. With their support, you can keep going because you know you can make it to the finish line.

Every day you are running a race. It’s not in the physical world but in the spiritual. In heaven, the stands are full of those who have gone before you, cheering you on to victory.

Hebrews 11

In chapter 11, the writer of Hebrews described all the great men and women of faith who have gone before you. Abraham, Noah, Moses, and thousands of others who ran their good race of faith. Now they sit in the stands of heaven, cheering you on to finish the race God has put before you. They cheer as you press on toward knowing the fullness of Christ.

Your spiritual race isn’t always easy, and sometimes you feel like giving up. Thoughts of fear, failure, and discouragement often crowd your mind.

Heaven Cheers

When you feel like quitting and you think you’re unworthy to even compete in this race, remember, heaven’s stands are full of those cheering you on. They know what it’s like to run the race. Having run their race of faith, they cheer you on to keep pressing forward to be all God has called you to be. Those who have gone before you are watching your progress and praying for your success.

Run the race with passion today because you have a heavenly audience cheering you on to victory.

Look at this promise once again.

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. – Hebrews 12:1

Make these confessions.

  • Today, I run my spiritual race with passion.
  • Those who have gone before me are cheering me on to victory.
  • I will not give up, give in, or give out.
  • I run with my eyes focused on Christ.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
